You would not believe the impact that one album had on the guitar community. Every kid that picks up a guitar and really gets into being a shredder, finds their way to perpetual burn. It's a rite of passage to be able to play the songs on that album. I first head perpetual burn when I was 19. It was like a lightbulb went off. It was exactly what I had been trying to do. My ego took a hit that someone else had already done what I was trying to do. But it was very comforting to know it was possible. All of the super shred metal guitar can trace itself back to perpetual burn.
Oh, his first band cacophony was with future megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman.
