What did you do today to your 3/S?

Picked up the engine from the machine shop today.

Reassemble the rods and pistons..went to do my ring gaps and couldn't find my feeler gauges. Likely still with the car, but they may very well be buried in a box somewhere around here. I'll probably run to harbor freight tomorrow and grab a new set, as well as swing by auto zone and get some more engine paint. Think I'll stick with the cast aluminum color, want something bright and shiny to help me spot oil leaks but we will see.

Edit: Using Lucas assembly lube instead of Permatex this time...Is green and smells vaguely evergreen like...Not sure how I feel about it. Debating if I should've just made my own with engine oil and trans fluid, but was too lazy.

I've never researched it or anything, but I've got a tube of that lucas lube in the garage... I'd buy it again.

I am quite unsatisfied with the Permatex stuff... Pretty sure it dried out in ~3 months and helped lead to my engine spinning a bearing on first start. I'll be using something different for sure.

That is a concern for me as it will be a very long time before the motor is actually running, but I have plenty to do and basically plan on slathering this stuff all over parts as I assemble, and then again before I reinstall it in the car and start it for the first time.

I use the Lucas all the time, it works great. Although if I plan on the engine sitting for more than a few months, I like to use a moly type lube.

These shots emphasize the difference in mounting height and show the difference in mount design. You can also get some idea of the change in length (front edge to rear edge) between the two, as the new airfoil is longer. I need to get the car out the garage and cleaned up for some better pictures. I can also use a better camera at that time as well which should really help.

Yes, both wings were functional with the active aero motor. When I get the nicer photos I will make sure to grab some with the wing up and down. I may use my gopro and just grab a short video.

This is a tough question to answer. The APR wing had cfd data available but the new airfoil did not. My concerns with the data are that the CFD analysis appears to performed with the wing in free space and the data tables are limited. Since the wing is mounted lower than the rear roofline I don't think it will get the full performance of being in "clean air" but part of the beauty of a 3d airfoil on a car like ours is that it doesn't have to be up really high to work. And since our AA system didn't seem to meet their published numbers directly I had to do some interpolation. And once again the AOA measurements weren't made with the best device available so there is probably some variation in those values.

So disclaimer aside here are some basic comparisons based on the Angle of Attack measurements and the CFD data that APR provided:

Down - AOA = 0*
80mph = 79.6 lbs
100mph = 126.3 lbs
120mph = 184.0 lbs

Up - AOA = 14*
80mph = 107.6 lbs
100mph = 170.0 lbs
120mph = 240.7 lbs

Now once again this was for the old wing and it won't fully account for the mounting location, so in practice the actual values would be lower. To me the big question is how much lower will they be.

Still good numbers. I was thinking the up position angle might take away from the foil doing its job, and reducing down force.

Workbench is mostly completed outside of wrapping the main bench in steel now. Did some cleaning and organizing in the garage. More stuff going out with the garbage tomorrow.

Disassembled my AC compressor as its status is unknown but I did see signs of some rust by the manifold. Gonna write up a thread about it shortly for feedback and ideas. May just be super lazy and exchange it for a reman

Drove down to CT to pick up some Gewalt evo wheels. 19x9/10. Slight curb rash which is fixable but I had them thrown on a tire balancer to check straightness, and they were out of round by quite a bit. I couldn't pull the trigger on em. Someday I'll have a set.

Those wheels look really good. I've always thought white lettering on tires looked bad (my hoosier QTP's included), but that's small enough that it looks nice.

I had to replace the gauge cluster on my car because the tach shit itself and read low. Let me know if you figure out how to repair it :)

Thanks man. Yeah I tried to keep it subtle. I like how it matches the paint ... would work for you too!

With the tach, guesses that I don't think are unreasonable are (1) dirty dash connections, (2) dirty PTU signal connections, (3) the tach became a muggle and lost its electricity magic and needs to be swapped out for my spare. I'm leaning towards (3) at this point but I'll let you know.

Rotating tires on my truck, and trying to bleed the brakes. Had a bleeder snap on a rear drum. Luckily its not leaking but I'm going to have to replace it somehow...hate working on drums. At any rate, here's what 13 year old brake fluid looks like.

Yeah Nomie, the 99 front does extend a little lower than the 1g stealth side skirts, but the bottom 1-2" of 1g stealth side skirts are black so it appears even lower comparatively. I have the 99 front underbody plastics I was going to put on to even out that black side skirt strip but with the bumps / driveways around here it'd get torn right off.

(And I'm shipping my old FMIC core out, so that'll go on soon too.)

Beef, sorry but I didn't have a splitter on the front end with the 1g bumper, just the factory underbody air dam. This is the picture you were thinking of:

Wow I always thought that picture of your car with the exhaust laying beside it had a splitter on it, now that I look at it again its something laying beside it haha. Well it made me want a splitter either way

Oh yeah, nope just lighting and cardboard laying next to it haha ... I can see what you mean though. Replaced pic in the previous post with the one you're thinking of. There are some others who have really nice 1g front ends with splitters though.

I had to take down the whole front exhaust system on the 99 because I had to replace the rear O2 sensor in the new 3sx collector, its snapped off on me taking it out. I took it all down and drilled out what was remaining of the o2 sensor in the collector and replaced it with an "old' o2 sensor from my 96 woohoooo the cel is gone.
