What's wrong with the 608 bearing?

Well, they don't exactly fit. They have to be pressed or hammered into the linkage, allowing zero play in the shifter. Other than obvious reasons, some have reported that the bushing causes gears to "pop" when shifting. When you buy an actual bushing kit from 3sx or ebay, they are a tight bit but allow for small movement (less than 1mm). This style usually comes in 2 pieces and simply pops into place, providing a ridge for the top and bottom that wouldn't be possible if designed as a 1 piece.
U should be able to get cheapo ones atwalmart or anywhere with a sports department. I pressed mine in with pliers
Gears popping when shifting would be an issue with the trans and not have anything to do with the shifter unless it was way out of adjustment and not shifting fully into gear.
The roller bearings are a very tight fit. Those type of bearings are not mean to be pressed in that tight. It will cause pressure on the race which will make it drag and bind.
My solids are very tight and so are my shifts now. There is way less than 1mm of tolerance in mine. I had to lightly sand the end shafts on the linkages to get them on they were so tight. But that how I want it.
I preferred the shifting feel with the stock bushings. Some compliance in the shifting mechanism is not always bad.
I have two on mine...
You have a solid bushing in each ring under the center column?
You can see in this pic that the one on the lower right that is attached is really small. There really is not a rubber bushing in that one. The otehr one has the solid one in it hence buying the kit and only using one. That solid bushing is the same ones that are used under the hood.
