Bigger plenum volume is more valuable IMO. If someone could make a tank that could just be welded onto the runners and people could cut their factory runners to the length that they want/need. Then you could adjust as necessary and just have to pay for the cost to get it welded if you don't have a welder. Since the runners seem to be roughly the same shape for most of the length, shouldn't be too hard to make a tank with a flange to weld the runners to. People wanting ultra short runners are semi on their own since you can only go so short before you run into the bolts for the upper.

Just a tank that can be sold by itself would cut the costs down for most folks and be easier to sell since most people could customize it to fit their needs. Include the bolt holes for the factory TB and for a Q45 shouldn't be too tough, and then boring out the opening for the Q45 would be all that needs to be done to step up in size since the interior of the plenum area would already be significantly larger.

I'll ponder it me later today after classes how it might work. Cost seems to be the biggest factor for most people who would buy it, and nobody is going to step up to make a manifold if there's no profit in it. The $300 manifold that was posted earlier is probably about as cheap as it gets, and most likely to sell compared to the 600 for the GB going on now.

Q45 are cheap. There is no reason to keep stock TB when going larger IM. Especially since Ninja has a remote mount IAC available. I wouldn't want it flanged for both since there would be a step in the opening, hindering flow for a larger TB.

Which mani is $300? Thx.

Very soon I will be fabricating my manifold.

I am SOHC, so I will keep it short since no one really has taken my build seriously. In the XJR, especially the 4.2 I6 configuration, they built the air/water intercooler into the intake plenum. When you remove the intake plenum, the intercooler engine coolant feed and return hoses have to be removed to take the manifold off. I am basing my intake design off of this. I am re-using the existing manifold and cutting off the end tank and throttle body and having a custom air/water intercooler built so it can be welded on the existing manifold. That way I can remove the whole manifold and everything as one piece. I am still drawing up those plans and hopefully I will have something meaningful to add to my build log.

Couldn't a guy with a fancy shop - say, someone capable of executing large-core bolt-on SMICs - just build a manifold, then sell it at a massive profit to the 3S masses? :huh:

Well, there's more to it then "just" building a manifold.....R&D is the main one.....fit and finish.....This is the main reason I went with a Mitsubishi 380 intake.

The one posted earlier by Nomiez that Tufftr posted on the other site, per Tufftr a couple posts later the mani only takes $300 to get to that state and added 10hp on a NA 3.5L without sacrificing runner length (and therefore torque if that matters to the purchaser.) Not sure if said 3.5L was stock or not, or what all goes into it.

While I personally would want a Q45 (or similar) on whichever manifold gets produced, you still have to remember that for anyone to produce these en mass and make money it needs to appeal to as many people as possible. Considering that the $400 Xcessive manifold GB hasn't exactly taken off, and seemingly few of those have added a Q45 and TPS and such to that for another $200. Again, I love the idea of it and would like to do it, however it has to cater to the lowest common denominator to keep it an option for as many people as possible, or it will have a premium attached to it to make up for such few possible candidates I would think.

Having it flanged for both (provided it can be done without hindering gaskets or anything) would allow a larger TB to be used, and just require that opening to be ported out slightly more for the larger Q45 TB.

I'll take the Q45 on the XM surge tank for $600 all day. That's likely 40hp. I'm guessing at the very least 20hp upgrade from the TB alone.. I've seen, heard and experience the one Erron depicted earlier. The XM surge tank is damn near identical. But, NA runners are 2" shorter... Perfect!

I probably didn't help the group buy by posting questions about runner length. Oops.

There are definitely gains with that mani combined with a q45. I agree with jfast....at least as much as the GTPRO mani/TB combo. Probably more. GREAT $/hp ratio especially compared Heads or to cams/springs/gears.

Anybody that buys it will be pleased.

BTW, the Q45 TB to buy is any that doesn't have traction control attached to it.
