BTW, if you did go lean in that cylinder maybe the fuel injector is bad or needs to be cleaned.
that and I would grab a new fuel pump if you are still running the stocker. It can't flow shit.
I need to post a closeup pic of the exhaust valve from #5. It looks like somebody took a bite out of it :suspect:
I suspected detonation from the beginning after seeing the plugs but still haven't gotten to the reason for the hard to crank issue. I'll have the pan off in the next day or so and I'm expecting to see more piston damage possibly with chunks of piston coating the bearings. At this point I'm hopefull that the crank isn't damaged.
I figure I'll need a set of forged pistons, rings, new rods, wrist pins, and bearings. Block will need to be hot tanked and honed at a minimum, hopefully I don't need to bore it. Heads will get stripped down, hot tanked and painted (has anyone chromed the heads :lo5l: ) Cam journals and rockers look great and I already have 3rd gen lifters. I'll need new valves and valve stem seals.
Questions. What tools do I need for this? I'm getting a Bluepoint valve keeper tool and have plans to get 1/2 and 3/8 torque wrenches. I think I can handle the head assembly but are there any details I need to know? Does anyone have all the torque specs handy?
For the block what tools do I need? Anything special to install the rings? Assuming only a hone is needed so I have to worry about balancing the rotating assembly? I guess I had better read the FSM on all of this :lo5l:
Need to start focusing on my upgrade list too
just need a cheapie sears ring compressor. $7 or $8
The 1/2 brownline torque wrench is nice.
Thanks for reminding me about the Brownline. I think I'll pick one up for higher torque stuff and use my beam torque wrench for the stuff under 30 pound feet.
