I got 36 as well, entered the formula into Excel to check, result was 36 as well

I think the problem is people see 6(6) as a singular value, and don't see it as a multiplication operation. So 36 / 6 (6) is the same as 36 / 6 * 6

Like Nick said, they get hung up on the 6(6) being the next operation (because parentheses). They overlook that once they solve the parentheses equation that the next step then becomes multiplication/division from left to right.
