I fixed the knocking noise my 3000gt. Turns out the timing belt had slack in it around the waterpump and it was slapping making a knocking like noise at lower rpms. Turned out the cause of the slack was a bad timing belt tensioner, I could compress it with my thumb so I got another and it fixed it.

Looked at it in the garage and cursed the weather.
The weather is so nice for January I got the Stealth out of the garage and drove it to work. I may remove the short shifter and install the original if I get any ambition.
