'93 VR4 State of the Union

Pressure testing wasn't as conclusive as usual because my rear valve cover gasket leaks @ 25 psi :p

The car was certainly quick, but the 5 bar MAP sensor appears to read a ~3-4 psi low. The only hiccup occurred as I was about to max out my EBC. At 2+ bar, there was some knock, and it broke up at the end of 2nd gear. I think there was more knock than this and I don't think the sampling rate of this logger is good enough:

Got some video, but the quality turns to shit as it passes through 3 different programs. Any gopro movie makers reading this thread with some input?

You were running a pt leaner up top on the pull with knock. (edit: just noticed I was comparing 2nd gear to 3rd. Both 2nd's look the same.)
Also, quite a bit of timing on both. 22-23 degrees before 6k if I'm reading it right. What fuel you running?

After the pull with knock, I turned the EBC back down and played it safe beyond 6K... I could tell the tune wasn't robust enough for the hot-lapping I was giving it on a 100+ deg F afternoon, so I wasn't going to push my luck. ~2-3 gallons of 93 + 5 gallons C16... ~109. What about mixing E85 with C16?

The timing numbers look fairly accurate when you compare to the stock timing maps posted. 23* at 6k on 9bs is a lot different then 6k 30psi on 16gs with 23*. I would pull some. This is still your stock block correct? I'd hate to see you trash turbos, heads, etc by breaking a rod or piston.

e85 and c16 sounds like a good combo but you'll have to retune your fuel and keep the mixture the same if you don't want your tune to change each time you fill up.

AEM vs Chrome... Any thoughts?

I would go Chrome.

Reasons.

A. Cost
B. Community Support
C. Always something in the works for it
D. Supporting the members who made it what it is (A fellow Texas 3S member sells his own kit)
E. Ease of tuning (Seems way easier then AEM)

I like my AEM series1 but would love to have series 2. Flex fuel and many safety features that should've been included years ago. (AFR lean limit by load, FP to load, etc). If you have the sensors and data, you can prevent catastrophic failure from common problems.

For example, what happens if one of my two fuel pumps fails or I spring a leak on the submersed line with Series 1 or chrome?? I'll have enough fuel to keep it running and toast a motor...

What happens on a series 2? Either FP safety feature or AFR will kick in and it will automatically cut fuel, ignition or boost (almost positive you can define response)....

I don't think you're heavily modded enough to merit a standalone or at least pushing enough power where other systems are a limiting factor I should say. Flashed ecu won't have SD. It doesn't have a public release for flex fuel, FP sensor failsafe, oil pressure failsafe, etc but is near the end of beta testing. A standalone AEM EMS v2 or ProEFI is well worth the money still. If I had the extra money and the ability to tune it well I would hands down get one because of the extra features.

I know that my current setup is right in the Chrome ECU's wheel house, but what about a 3.5L making 750-1000 AWHP? I saw today that Jester is running 1000cc injectors. Anyone else? Is there a power limit to the Chrome? Is the limit the MAF?

Took me a minute to realize you meant speed density... I don't think my LT1 MAF in blow thru is much of a source of pressure drop, so I don't see this as a major advantage. That said, how many high power 3S's or DSM's run blow through MAF's? Are there any beyond 700 WHP?

Are the fail safe and flex fuel option the only features the AEM EMS s2 has over the Chromed ECU's?

As far as I know, nobody has pushed it to it's limit so nobody knows yet.

Once I max these 1000cc inj's out, I will be swapping to chrome and 2000cc injs
