That's the point, though. No one (in the US) would choose a plan like that. Not meant to be an insult, but the plan you described would basically only suit a senior citizen in the US. It would be perfect for my grandmother who only has a cell phone for emergency. The Straight talk, and Obama, phones work real similar. You load it up, and what you put on it is yours until you use it up. Doesn't expire or require a recurring monthly charge.
I'm with VZW, aka the king of cost. If they aren't doing it, then it's not a viable model. I easily send 500-1000 texts a month, and use a few gigs of data. The one thing I really don't do with my phone is talk on it, LOL. I view, and use, it as a computer in my pocket. It's an invaluable tool for my work.
