My SL has developed a Klunk in the passenger front.
Its not consistent. It comes and goes and the flunk seems vibrational not rotation based.
No klunk under acceleration or when breaking. Most noticeable when deceleration.
I'm thinking's something loose in the brakes or maybe wheel bearing?
Thought/Suggestions?
I had one with sorta the same symptoms and it ended up being the wheel bearing.
i'd start with the jack-test. jack up that wheel & try to wobble it side to side, and then up and down. side-side play probably = tie rod ends. up and down probably = control arms. if there's no play either direction, than it's quite possibly the bearing.
Does it do it when driving straight or when wheel is turned? Could be driveshaft. Wheel bearing usually make an audible howling noise.

check your fender well plastics. I had this inconsistent clunking for the last few hundred miles on the stealth, and I thought it was a blown strut, but would only clunk once in a while, no rhyme or reason, and it sounded like a blown strut. turned out to be one of the push clips for the inner fender plastic was missing, and it was rubbing on the tire on some bumps. Put the clip in, no more clunking.

just a thought. Mine sounded nothing like a plastic piece, and more of a "clunk/thud". I was 100% certain one of my struts were blown.
Alan, I had an issue with a clunk in my LaBaron, had it the shop twice to have it diagnosed and fixed every time the would put it on the lift and everything was fine. it was not until they checked with the car on the alignment rack could they find what was loose.
Why that it was is when the tires were hanging it created a reveres load if you will that the loose parts could not be located.

can you tell what side it comes from? Swap the struts from left to right and see if it moves.
often the safety inspection people can find this kinda crap easily. I don't know if you have them up there, but down here we need a safety inspection every 2 years and they have caught bad ball joints and control arm bushings that I did not know about for just a couple of bucks.
