Quick spool valves.

does anyone have experience with quick spool valves? such as this:

do they work at all? any harm to performance (slightly increased backpressure when closed?)? do they actually help to spool a bigger turbo a little quicker?

reason i ask, is not that i hope to spool a giant turbo like a 9b.

my build plan is currently a 3.5l pampena shortblock, with billet crank etc, and a set of 6262's. I've done my research on that, and am content with the probable spool characteristics, but after coming accross these "quick spool valves" i'm wondering if i could go a bit bigger turbo (with the required divided turbine housing), and have it spool like the 6262, with more hp in the end.

They do work. You can google it and see plenty of dyno graphs. It diverts the exhaust from both divided sides to just one which makes the turbo act like it has a smaller exhaust housing in turn increasing spool and low/mid range power. No matter which turbos you go with you will have to build your own kit or heavily modify a pre-made turbo kit. I had trouble getting my 5857 to fit on the rear without extensive modification to my DR T3 kit. Adding a QSV will make everything coming off the turbo not line up - wastegates, 02 housing, intercooler pipes, etc so it would all have to be modified. As long as your up for the work I say give it a shot. I'd consider something like that but I would also completely switch to a longer tube manifold setup.

i had already planned on probably an over the trans turbo setup, i was going to do my own headers/o2s/wastegates and intercooler piping anyway, so that's not a concern, i was just looking for some support of my plan, to make sure i'm not overlooking some obvious flaw to the plan.

Shiver's quickspool valve doesn't require changing anything that bolts to the turbo, as it's all inside the housing....But changing turbine housings requires a new valve. Give and take.
