OK, so im sure everyone knows i just got my tcase and outputshaft to complete my drivetrain. Now, my question is, im using slicks, and do we with slicks and awd go thru the water box at the strip? I see some go around it and some light em up. Just wondering what the few that use slicks or DR's do?
I know it might sound like a noobish question, but i want to be sure before i try to light em up when im not supposed to. Adam, Dave...chime in
Well going by your sig you shouldnt have a problem scuffing them up a bit to get the crud off of them, but you probably won't be able to do a full out burnout to get the tires up to temp.

In your situation knowing that you dont want to break anything, i would start off simple, and then figure out what will work for you. Start with the pressure around 15-16 psi, drive around the water and up to the line. You will need a higher 2 step than on street tires and you will need a bit more clutch slip. once you launch it the same thing going down the track, just keep it straight. At the other end though, get on the brakes, but make sure not to slam them, the tires have a lot of "slop" in them at low PSI, nad if you slam them it can make the rear end swing out on you, and its not fun after that.

Thx Austin. Appreciate it. That is awesome experience there. I will try that. I was going to start at alot higher psi like 32 then work my way down. think thats too little at 15-16 for first time?
Heres a couple examples of me as well, the first video is my first time ever on slicks. As you can see i bogged pretty bad on the launch, not slipping the clutch enough, and my 2-step was a little low. It was still fast enough to get me the boot after one pass though :(
The second video is my second attempt at slicks, a little more 2-step and it was off to the races. A little bit of tire spin off the line, but all 1.4 60's that day. Like i've told you in the txt's this is all on one stock unbraced transfer case. Sure the weight helped, but it all comes down to the driving, the slicks arent going to break anything, they are actually better for your drivetrain than a regular tire, as you launch the sidewall flexes and loads up your drivetrain same thing as you are slipping the clutch, then they hook and go. Street tires have solid sidewalls, thats part of why they spin so much, they have no give so either something is breaking or the tires are gonna completely loose all traction.
All my passes were on about 14 psi in the tires. Never did a burnout (tried it once and it didnt help me) on these passes. Just rolled around the water box and straight to the line.

I just posted two of my videos to. 15-16 is not that low, your tires will still be balloons at that pressure. So you will probably get a little spin like i was, but thats not always a bad thing. If you have the tires on your car while your driving around town i would keep them around 25 psi. These tires arent meant for high pressure like street tires are.Quote:

I really wouldnt suggest your first pass at less than 15-16psi. We are talking about someone going 120+ mph for the first time on slicks. It's different than street tires.
1.4's are possible without doing a burnout..just go around the water box. It all depends on the track prep.
