Call me crazy...but

I'm pretty dead set on making myself a set of 19T's from some 9b cores with this kit and having it locally balanced and lathed out to fit the compressor wheel....

The compressor housing is already machined for the 19t wheel, and I just have to have the CHRA machined to fit it. Comes with a rebuild kit already, so I don't have to worry about sourcing superback parts to convert from flatback. Seems to be a pretty low expense option for those wanting 19T's...also found a link to a guy who has already done this for the Volvo crowd

Ya I just found it interesting that he was converting a 15g to a 19t, since I have 15g's and want 19t's lol, but I'll most likey build the 19t's from 9b cores and then swap them out with the 15g's on the car and sell my 15g's.

In for results. Ive done a few low budget rebuilds myself. Just never upgraded the wheel/housing.

Sounds like an interesting project. I just did a google search for turbo balancing. The first one I found charges about $65 to balance each turbo. So ~ $520 + 130? Not too bad if they turn out pretty nice. Subscribed :)

I found a pretty local shop here, well 3hrs away in SLC that I believe will balance them for $25ea and I'm still waiting to hear back if they can lathe out the CHRA for the bigger wheel or not. They specialize in Ford Powerstroke turbos but I emailed to see if they can do other turbos as well. The place is Ron's Turbo Service and they say they ship turbos worldwide. Wonder if they'd do a group deal if we could get a bunch of guys interested in putting these kits together. I'm gonna look around here to see if I can find any other shop that can lathe one out for me. I've heard of some shops in Cali that do $30 for machining turbos for larger wheels like this.

If I sell my 15g's I'd probably want $6-700 on them depending if they needed rebuilt or not. If they needed rebuilt I'd knock $100 off to offset the price of rebuild kits. The 15g's have about 1k miles on them with my engine, but I suspect they may be blowing some oil since I'm getting some smoke on decel after boost. Not sure if it's just an internal seal or what. This project will probably take me a bit to save up and get all the parts and work done, but I am pondering using some tax return money to jumpstart it hehehe don't let the wife know! If I get this accomplised I plan on taking the car up to SLC to get it dyno tuned and post up some numbers. For roughly $630 and some DIY work for a set of 19T's it doesn't sound half bad

Let me know what you find out from them. They are down in South Jordan which isnt too far. Also give us a heads up when you are in town. We're looking to setup another meet with the boys soon. Hit up the UT chapter on the "other site" and keep us posted on your activity. I would jump in on the group buy, but only after a finish product comes out with positive results first.

That's right, forgot you were in SLC. I'll have to remember to post up on the UT chapter when I'm going there next. Who do you recommend in SLC to dyno tune (I run Maft-pro Speed Density)? Not too familiar with shops up there. Also, don't blame you one bit, I'm taking a chance here in buying one of those kits and seeing if I can make any respectable numbers out of them. $5-600 isn't a huge chunk of money to throw down for it, but it definately isn't something to scoff at either. Probably gonna take me some time to save up to do this project on the side. Lately just been doing some maintenance on the vr4 and trying to get it more roadworthy, so maintenance is going first for sure.
