Timing Belt Slack
I was looking at the timing belt in my 94 base and there is a surprising amount of slack between the front cams and the water pump. How can this be and have it still run fine? I must have a tensioner issue. Is there any other way to look at this?
BTW, If I have to climb into this car, does anyone know what sizes the tensioner bolts are? I would like to have some fresh ones on hand before I tear it down. Grade 8?
I am new and nervous...:-)

Are you talking about slack when it sits? If that's the case then that is normal. The belt will slack up once the car sits. That's what the hydraulic tensioner does.

It just depends on which valves are open when the cams come to rest. If you bump the starter and poke the belt again, it will probably be tight in that spot and loose somewhere else.
