Unsrpung vs Sprung hub clutches

Most of you know my history of transmission and clutch issues. In trying to put together a list of parts and prices for getting my car on the road I started considering clutch options. I found a few fairly priced unsprung full face clutches for consideration.

My question is this, how does the unsprung hub clutch feel in comparison to a sprung hub? I don't want a clutch that is a pain in the ass for DD duty (a la pucked clutches), but I don't mind something with a little bit of effort. I mean, I did have an ACT 2600 for awhile.

So for those with experience with both, how do they compare?

In my experience, the unsprung pucked (only type of unsprung I've used) are a lot more chattery if you're not paying attention. They also tend to be more of an on/off switch.

BUT. That's not to say they aren't streetable. I think mine (POS SPEC stage 5... 6 puck unsprung, like metal on metal) is plenty streetable. It makes all kinds of noise while engaging and is super stiff, but I don't really struggle to slip it or anything. I think it's easier than my bone stock Mazda 6 to be honest.

Lastly, something you're already aware of I'm sure... how streetable a clutch is, is totally dependent on the individual. I'm a 25 year old punk, I probably think things are more streetable than they really are hahaha

The on/off switch feel you experienced is probably more related to being a pucked clutch, more than being unsprung, but I will await further responses first.

Are there any dual mass flywheels available these days? I had a sprung hub on my Stealth, with my 911 I run the GT2 unsprung hub but that is paired with a dual mass flywheel, and it drives perfectly with no chatter, but with tons of holding power.

After trying all kinds of pucked clutches over the years for various cars, I prefer the unsprung with a dual mass FW. If that's an available option I'd look into it.

I've had a solid disc in my car for 4 years now - Spec 4. Love it. But I personally prefer a shorter sharper engagement in my clutch. It's very streetable for daily driving as I do when weather permits or it ain't broke....

Depends if you have a vagina or a penis... Just playing haha Judging by how you drive and your solid mounts and everything I doubt you would mind solid. Have you looked into the eBay clutches? I have the stage 3 sprung 6 puck and it has a quick engagement but definitely streetable. Grabs like mofo :)

I'm mainly looking at full face. I actually found an ACT full face unsprung kit for ~$330, which is very reasonable IMO.

If you want it to feel like a comfortable Japenese super car, go sprung. If you want it to feel like a race car go unsprung.

Spec 4+ unsprung thats been modified a littler beefier from rochester clutch and brake in NY.
Its a bit chattery when you engage it and dont pay attention but I DD it as its not so bad.

Would probably be even better if i didnt have solid front/rear mounts :p

Loved the XTD stg 4, 6 puck unsprung. Held 500awtq no problem. Easy to slip on take off with the 6g74, 9:1, e85, NA cams. Little chattery and more on/off when trying to slip on an 8:1, 3.0 with BC280's.

edit: Actually, still have mine on the shelf if you are interested. Lightly used (~1000 miles, 20-30 burnouts:D.) Would have to sell fairly inexpensively since they are so damn cheap new!
