Wow. Not the first I've heard of though. What indication do you get when it fails? Makes me consider buying a new one for my build
I took one off of my friends 97. No signs of failure, no noise, nada. Put it on the garage floor and it came right apart when i went to pick it up.
Anytime i tear down an engine, it goes back together with a new OEM pulley if its the original still on the car.

They should probably be replaced every 60k, at the very least 120k. They have caused more damage than any aluminum pulley. I had zero notice when mine split, lucky no damage, others not so lucky. 3sx pulley ftw!?
Absolutely zero signs of warning. Simply came apart on me when I went to remove it from the engine. Car has roughly 128k.
I did a study on 3si years back. They seem to fall apart about 120k mark or sooner. Depends on the environment. I will trust my car with the aluminum pulley until we get to 5-600hp. Then you need to think about getting a real dampener. It will cost you about 800 bucks, or get a brand new stock pulley. I can tell you this, old stock pulleys cause more damage than aluminum aftermarket pulleys.Quote:

I'm fairly certain that mine is still the original pulley. 21 years old and 220,000 miles. You guys are getting me worried.
