| I had been looking at cars for a few months. I wanted to be able to park my Stealth and wanted something a little more reliable, a little more comfortable, and cushier. I didn't really want to spend a whole lot of money so I was looking at some 97-03 Grand Prix, as well as a few other cars in that class. Even though I had some money sitting in savings, it wasn't going to be enough to get a car that I really wanted. In my searches I kept seeing 04-08 Grand Prix for reasonable prices. One day I was driving the Stealth and noticed shifting was getting notchy, and the transmission was starting to whine. Upon further investigation I found the transmission to be bone dry, which meant none other than blown differential number four, and a total of five lost transmissions. This event forced me to act fast. I spoke with the owner of the company for whom I worked for at the time, because he has a dealer license, and owns several properties. He put me in touch with a local used car dealership, and told the dealer to take care of me. I went to the dealership that day after work and there sat the car I wanted. A black on black leather 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Mileage was a little high, but the car was in excellent condition. The car was loaded with just about every option except for navigation and a sun roof. It had heated leather seats, nice factory aluminum wheels, tinted windows and so on and so forth. The dealer threw me the keys and told me to start it up. He was doing the typical dealer spiel, telling me how quick it is and just goes when you hit the throttle. Then he told me to go ahead and take it for a ride. The test drive is what made me want it even more. Quiet, smooth, and definitely quick. A stab of the throttle made the speedometer climb rather quick. When I got back to the dealership I popped the hood and found out that it was supercharged. I had not known at that time that Pontiac had changed the nomenclature in 06 and dropped the GTP nameplate from the Grand Prix line. After a few days of dealing with financing issues I got to pick the car up and it was mine. When I purchased the car in March of 2011 it was 100% stock with 123k miles on it. As of the end of July 2015 it now has a little over 178k miles on the clock. Shortly after purchase I installed an open cone to make the supercharger scream. A little later I purchased some piping and couplers and installed a homemade 4" intake with nice 4" filter to go along with it. At one point I was forced to upgrade the stock dowpipe when the original got a nice hole in the flex section. I purchased a stainless 3" catted downpipe from ZZPerformance. About a year ago I acquired a stock Grand Prix GXP spoiler and an Inferno style aftermarket hood. Had my buddy at Early Performance paint the parts for me and installed them to improve the look of the car. They were two of the aesthetic mods I wanted when I got the car and am very glad to have them. |
