So this morning I became the proud owner of a 79 Cadillac eldorado barriatz diesel . Long story short grandpa bought brand new in eighty , stopped driving it in ninety one . Had it in storage shed ever since . Now he needs room to park another new truck he bought and asked me if i wanted the caddy being as I'm the only grandkid into cars . Thing is mint inside and out with only 29k miles on it .

I didn't know Cadillac ever made a diesel. Cool find.
Actually I just did some searching and it looks like it was a big flop for Cadillac. Is anything wrong with it? Why was it parked for 20 years?

Parked for the sane reason their van with 40k on it is getting parked , ...... To much money , they also have a mint 61 Ford 3/4 ton 2wd in their and couples motorcycles .

Ditto. I wonder how reliable they are for daily driving, most diesels I can think of from that era were a lot more problematic than their gasoline counterparts. How many did they ever make? Could be a rare car.

Originally they had told me that a diesel was swapped into it because the title said gas ..... But as you can see the banging all says diesel , all safety stickers for fuel type etc say diesel . But it Does have a reman engine in it , the valve covers say good wrench on the stickers which was hmm reman back then
On a side note , how many of you have ever seen a factory cb ? Yes this has one ha ha

LOL I have... And it was on my grandfather's Cadillac as well! :)
seems very similar to the paresian (sp) that GM also made. i think the bonneville also came with a diesel available (don't quote me). also i think the toronado?
diesel was a bit more popular back in the day.

What about converting the caddy to veggie oil fuel?

That thing is a TANK. I'd love to see it done up right! Good luck with the diesel engine.

Maggie fuel oil would be cool but I'm working.on getting it running first , had to source some t boot rubber things that hook the Injectors to the return rail as they were all rotten . Think a gm dealer can get them ? No ! I ended up buying all eight from a John deere dealer !
Need to bleed the Injectors and change the oil and it should start :crossfingers:

None of you are old enough to remember but the 70s oil crises spurred demand for diesel cars as diesel fuel was significantly cheaper for a while. All the GM lines had diesel models in the late 70s early 80s. My dad had an Olds Delta 88 diesel for years. It was built like a tank and very luxurious but the diesel engines were essentially modified gas engines and had design / reliability issues. My Dad ended getting a brand new short block for free !

Should be a fun.car when It's running , not fast or handles well but should be comfy and i like the way it looks , apparently you can make a big cube small block out of them because they use the same main journals as a big block the 425 crank bolts right in and the cylinder walls are thicker so a 1/8 inch over bore can be obtained , with the stroke and overcome I guess you can get then to be a 455 ,
Would be interesting if I ever pitched the diesel for reliability
