i haven't forgotten:

--i remember it each and every time an armchair pundit starts talking about military employment like they are somehow better versed in the politics of terrorism than the people who are trained and paid to deal with it.

--i remember it each and every time someone decides to start denigrating someone else, or commits an egregious lie

--i remember it each and every time someone espouses deleting military spending in favor of increased entitlement handouts

--i remember it each and every time i'm stuck in the buttcrack of the earth enduring 120-degree temperatures

--and most of all, i remember it each and every time the post 9-11 body count is brought up...because that count could be 10x as much and be nearly 100% civilian

i encourage you and the rest of the tree-hugging, make-love-not-war hippies to form your own utopian state in some remote region of the world and see how long you collectively survive while given to the mindset that terrorists are people too--and can be reasoned and negotiated with.

americans are collectively like the mentally ill when it comes to national defense. medicated, the symptoms subside. then the individual decides that the medication is no longer needed because the symptoms are gone--and stops taking the medication. ...and then the disease flares up with renewed acuteness.

do any of you know what the past decade would have held...had we not retaliated against al qaeda? how can you say for certain that the cost we have paid--in lives and treasure--has been in vain? because from where i sit, we are LESS free today than we were before 9-11, and yet we somehow believe we're actually safe and that fighting the "away game" that we have been is a waste. does anyone actually read history to see what happened the last time we abruptly pulled out of afghanistan? oh that's right.....9-11 happened. 2-26 should have been the wake up call back in 1993...but it wasn't.

i remember 9-11 because i remember what happens when we don't stay the course in situations such as where we currently are.

I'm not a tree hugging liberal by far. I just fail to see the connection between iraq, and 911. Afghanistan was where the real danger lay, and it was put on the back burner needlessly.

I got dispensation (my sister is a bit of a wig, and she was in the WTC during the '93 bombing) to go to the top of the North Tower in August of 2000, 13 months to the day before 9/11.

I've been back to NYC three times since and I still can't get my mind around the monstrosity of 9/11.

To hear people say we should strive to understand "why 9/11 happened" or somehow incorporate a "recognition of our sins" into a memorial is so fantastically insulting and counter to any correct idea of diversity I am overcome by disgust.

I'm going to try to ignore the media today and remember things my own way.
