Megan Coilovers on N/A?

I have a 2nd gen (1995) 3000GT base, so its a non-turbo and doesnt have ECS. Are Megan Coilovers compatible with my car?

If so, can anyone recommend them? My car is a daily driver. Im doing small mods (testpipe, downpipe, catback) and traction on the front tires are already bad enough stock when launching (well, all the time in 1st gear). With the coilovers, Im thinking that stiffening the rear would help a bit. On top of that, it'd take care of that monster truck wheel gap.

Also, Ill be using stock 16" rims with the factory tire size.

megans will work on any cars--you just have to make sure you get the correct ones (fwd vs. awd). the difference is the rears; fronts bolt up identically (i cannot speak to the damping rate differences between fwd/awd on different brands). since you don't have ECS, it's really a no-brainer to swap out.

lots of people run megans and they seem to have a pretty good bargain. some of the "lower-end" parts seem to be problematic for people who do a degree of intensive driving (road-race, etc)--i have heard about them slipping adjustment. still, this is not a problem for all who have used them...so just a head's up that it could be a problem, and not just with megans. there are a few other brands which will offer similar performance at similar prices--so check around. there's also NEX coilovers on ebay (don't quote me). I don't know what the verdict is on those, but at least 1 or 2 people are using them.

if traction is a problem, the first two things you need to check are your alignment & the tires you're using. 225's are pitifully narrow, imho--they're suited to daily drivers, not performance cars. i have a hard time recommending anything smaller than the 1g stock tt/vr4 size of 245/45r17, unless you're talking about winter tires.

whatever you do, be prepared for a firmer ride. there are no coilovers on the market that offer as soft of a ride as the 3/s could offer stock.

a few people run ksports. i've heard the same kind of mixed stuff about those. i have d2's on my car & i haven't had any complaints. coilovers became a necessity when i moved to 285's. the +24mm offset on my wheels puts the rubber too far outside the fender, and i'd get rubbing issues when i went over a hard bump. i actually had to raise the gap in the rear on my car--to prevent that (one of the side-effects of the awd conversion).

you might be able to fit wider tires on the stock 16's...but i wouldn't recommend it. you're really better off to upsize if you're spending the money on a new set. 17's won't cost that much more. even my 285/35r18's i paid about $250 installed each--which i considered to be very reasonable for that size and width. 17's are almost always cheaper & you'll have a lot more width options. heck, you can probably find some stock 17" rims for dirt cheap from someone on here.

245/50/16 is essentially the same diameter of the stock 225/55's. You can easily run 245's on the stock 8" wide wheels.

I am a huge proponent of the Megan's. I was one of, in not the, first to run them on a 3s. I put well over 40k miles on my set and loved every minute.

Its nice to get a verification on tire width. I like how long those Megans have lasted you. Is your 3S your daily driver?

Been happy with my Megans. Since this is your daily driver they might be a little stiff for you but if you're young and your roads are pretty smooth then you will probably love them.

Another plus for the Megans. I've been running them for a few years and I don't think the ride is much worse than the lowering springs we have available and you have the adding flexibility of adjusting them. I've tracked the car several times and DD it on occasion and honestly have no complaints.

Yeah, whowouldathunk a 3s isn't reliable? LOL

I really, really miss driving the Stealth. I could occassionally drive it hard and still get 26 mpg. I have to baby the Grand Prix to get 21 mpg on the same roads. It handles for shit too.
