View Full Version : Should I sell the 3000GT or fix it?

Now that I have my Stealth, I am definitely WILLING to sell the 3000GT even though it is SO nice, and I will miss how well it drives and handles... It is a LOT more "showroom" than the TT.... Also, I was gonna swap the ATX for an MTX, and I even have the MTX and all the parts to do the swap, but the ATX might still be ok in it with just a little work. (needs end clutch and I have a shift kit ready to go in) I could actually continue to drive it with the OD turned off with zero problems, but I bought the stealth to drive while I did the swap. I just don't want it to sit here and collect dust waiting for me to fix the trans if someone wants to buy it... If I am selling, should I fix the ATX, or do the swap? I would include both transmissions and all parts with it either way. I welcome your thoughts...

Depends on your time and willingness to do the work to get the job done I'd say. If you're not going to have the time to do the swap in a reasonable fashion, I'd sell it.

I think I will get the ATX working properly then sell it with the swap parts....

Sell car.

Sell swap parts.

Seperate.

Sell the Stealth, 3000GTs look better :p

I kid, I go with the above advice. Adding the swap parts to the sale will get you little to no more than you want for the car, but will get you money on its own. I'd fix and sell separately

Great advice! Thanks! I agree that the 3kgt looks better... but the stealth is a beast! LOL The stealth is getting a '99 nose job next year!

Can you afford to spend money on both cars? If not, I'd pick one and focus on that. A lot of times when people take on two projects they don't finish either.

Very good advice. At a minimum always keep one drivable.

How much? I'd buy it broken for cheap...

Can't let it go for cheap... $2000 before I fix, $3000 If it runs 100% I know how awesome this car is... It's not flawless but I just did the 120k service, and aside from very minor body dings, drivers seat bolster, and the aforementioned transmission this is a 100% car and everything works 100% super clean, drives like new! I also did t-stat, silicone hoses, new plugs (cooler plugs to run nitrous) Nitrous is hooked up, but I will be taking it out to sell separately... I never really used the nitrous because I was fighting transmission problems so the car was never thrashed. Air is ice cold, It has almost new tires, brand new High performance trans cooler, and will have a new battery... It's a perfect clean slate to start a project or use as daily driver!

Cept it has transmission problems.... See the point? You list off things that honestly don't mean shit to a buyer. Ice Cold Air? It's like sub $100 to charge an AC or replace a compressor...and it's going to be winter in a month and a half. Basic service is supposed to be done otherwise it comes out of the asking price so that's not a selling point to an informed buyer either. New tires? Ok I'll give you that point if you have receipts.

I wouldn't mention the nitrous, to me you adding nitrous means you did race or intended to race and or beat the shit out of the car, at +120k miles on a 3/s that's just not smart and may even be a turn off to potential buyers. I'd sooner remove the kit and put it on the TT.

I'm telling you this to help you out brother..trust me. I've bought, sold, and killed enough of these to know :p Dump it and spend the money on the TT. Or just spend $300 on a new trans and fix it, keep the TT off insurance while putting it together slowly.

It won't have transmission problems when I sell it, and it is a creampuff car, it will sell very easily as nice as it is, and since I never really got to run the nitrous, because I was NOT going to beat the crap out of it, I have no reason to hide any of that info... you come and take a ride in it and see how much it's like driving a brand new car... the car will speak for itself and all I am putting out for it is the cost of a new end clutch...

Also, the TT is already my DD because it is already built, and only needs minor tuning... (oh, and that 2nd gear synchro, lol)

Edit: The nitrous kit IS coming out... I will probably sell that separate... If I can't sell it, I can always hook it up to just a purge solenoid because it would be funny as hell to spray like Red Mist's car in Kick Ass... LMAO!

make sure to figure out how much the transmission to fix and how much running cars are going for. you might lose money by getting it fixed, either that or it will sit in your driveway for months without a buyer.

x2 Seriously auto tranny issues in these cars can be hard to diagnose and fix because most times it's an electrical gremlin. Start off small with the solenoids and mini computers on the trans itself, they are known to get corrosion. Then move on to the tcu and if that's not fucked move on to the TQ converter.

We will see what happens when I put the new end clutch in and rebuild the valve body with the translab shift kit, and then go from there... I already have that part covered.
