the drawback to germany lies in the god awful restrictions they put on emissions, vehicle inspections, etc. i've driven at 160 kph...it just takes a tad longer to get there. :)

I've done the 80 MPH stretch of I-10 in west Texas a couple of times. Really, you don't want to go much faster than that for a long distance. It's ok to hit 100+ for a short sprint, but for the 300 plus miles between El Paso and San Antonio, you'll find that 80 is just fine.I've never been on I-35 in Texas, so I don't know if that road is wider and can handle the higher limit comfortably. I'll give it to Texas though, they're much more realistic with their speed limits than a lot of other states.

Thank goodness. That's one of the things I hate around where I live. What sense is there to have a 4 lane highway where the speed limit is 40-45?!? It kills me!

Yeah, done that stretch of I-10 myself a few times now. I generally set the cruise at 75 through there as my mileage really starts to fall off after that. Damn that's a wide state...
