The Lighthouse Challenge of New Jersey (formerly the NJ Lighthouse Challenge) is a two day event where the 11 land based lighthouses of NJ are opened to the public for visitation and climbing. In addition to the 11 lighthouses there are two museums, and two life saving stations to visit as part of the challenge. A souvenir passport will be available for purchase for $1.00. As you visit each location, your passport will be stamped as proof of each visit. This will be your souvenir to commemorate your participation in the event. This year marks the 13th Anniversary that the Lighthouse Challenge of NJ has been held since its inception.

For more information about this event, please visit the NJ Lighthouse Society website (http://www.njlhs.org/challenge/ChallengeofNJ.html) or Lighthouse Challenge of NJ website (http://www.lighthousechallengenj.org/2012LHCNJ/Main.html).

This will be the fourth year 3SNJ will be participating in this event. This is a rain or shine event, so there are no excuses to miss this even if we have bad weather. The first year we participated, we had a Noreaster and we still completed the challenge. This event affords you a great opportunity to visit and learn about locations that you were not aware of or thought about visiting until now. This is 3SNJ's longest official cruise event, totaling about 390 miles along most of New Jersey's shoreline. If you are into photos, this event provides many picturesque backdrops. It does not matter what kind of car you drive in this event; last year one of our member's car was down, so he drove his sister's Corolla. We do not discriminate and this is not a race. The cruise is very casual with many stops, so it does not even feel like you are doing the distance.

The locations that will be part of this event/cruise will be:

Day #1:

Airport Plaza (Meet point)
Sandy Hook Lighthouse
Twin Lights of Navesink
Sea Girt Lighthouse
Barnegat Lighthouse
Barnegat Light Historical Museum
Tucker's Island Lighthouse
Cape May Lighthouse
Absecon Lighthouse

Day #2:

US Life Saving Station 30
Tatham Life Saving Station
Hereford Inlet Lighthouse
Cape May County Historical Museum
East Point Lighthouse
Finn's Point Lighthouse
Tinicum Lighthouse

The order in which we will visit each location is tentative but will be finalized and posted about a week before the event.

Updates will be made as necessary and posted.

Lighthouse location details will be posted at a later date.
There will be an overnight stay in the Atlantic City area.
There will be no official hotel for this event. Lodging arrangements will be the responsibility of the participant. Lunch stops will be made on the fly and fitted into the schedule.
The Tinicum Lighthouse in Paulsboro will be our end point for this event. From there all participants can depart for home.
