View Full Version : What do I need to make a proper R134a AC conversion on my 91TT

As the tittle says is anyone kind enough to tell me (and help build a data base here) exactly everything I need to do a proper R134a conversion ?

So far, last year I had the compressor and the drier replaced (I think they have put new seals) and even if I use my AC only maybe 15-20 times last year, at spring time, I had no more gas in it, leaked by a seal, I went to refil the system but after that the AC doesn't work anymore : when I start the AC, I now got the 'red dot' instead of the 'ninja blue star' after a few minutes on the screen.

Thanks

Eric

I would just stick with the r12 system. any reason your not just fixing the system but instead just replacing it?

I'm in for information. A friend of mine did the conversion on his Grand National by swapping all the parts to R-134a parts. I guess the difference in the particle size between r12 and r134a means that r12 parts using r134a will never make the air as cold as a proper r134a system.

Yeah I've heard that as well. Also I think that R12 will leak out of a r134a system.

you have a pepboys?

Its not legal here in Texas either. I think the closest place its legal is like Arizona. BUT

You can run to pepboys and pick up a can of freeze12. Thats what i did on the VR4 and i had hard nipples for a while...

are you running 134 now?? i just did a conversion last week on a 91. the car had a bad expansion valve so i did a conversion.

changed the dryer bottle, (you did that already) drained as much oil out of the system as i could. added a similar amount of PAG oil. evacuated the system, and recharged with 28 oz of 134.

you will need to find your leak, and proceed with repairs first. pretty much all you need to do.
