I don't work for either. My company is phenomenal. Never seen a company go out of their way to please employees as much as mine. I can't speak for the others. It all depends on where you live. When I lived in Colorado Springs I could get a job with just my CCNA and a security clearance during my lunch break. I moved to Raleigh where half of the workforce here has at least a bachelors degree; now I can't get a call back with 7 years experience in the field. That's why I'm trying to join the upper half of the workforce that has their degree. I'm broke now, but I should be ballin' in a few years. Where's that gif of Obama making it rain. LOL That's what popped in my head when I said that.

Easiest way is to know some body; otherwise have your paper work in order (degree, certs, and what not...) If you get your A+ and N+ you can also start with some day contract jobs to get your feet wet. I was lucky years ago and knew someone that got me in.

I own an Alternative Investment Brokerage. We do the structuring of financial instruments, stock loans, 401k loans, IRA loans, project financing, Gold Arbitrage, etc...I am also 1/4 partner in a stand alone SWIFT portal service. Another boring financial company, but it makes money, and is on autopilot for the most part.

I work for a small company that sells bedliners to the international market. 99.9% of our customers are outside the US, so the economic crisis here in the US hasn't really affected our sales.
I started in January as a Logistics Team Leader, otherwise known as a glorified shipper/receiver. I just recently, as in last week, was promoted to Production Planner. It pays the bills, and thats all that matters.

i can identify with that; it's both on the officer and enlisted sides. it's probably worse on the officer side. officer spouses can be almost as bad. i have very, very few real friends--and it's probably because i see what i do as a job, not a glorified badge of honor which entitles me to some mystical form of "sucking-up" from those around me.

Yea I can believe that. 35 years ago I paid $8 an hour for general labor. I refinished homes. That was 1975. General labor should be paying at least $15 today in the midwest cost adjusted for the coasts. IMHO. With a college degree you should be starting over $20. IMHO. Our economy can not keep taking from those that already are underpaid.

I know. It's insane. I have a side business restoring headlights, but all the dealers i try to sell my services to have someone who can't even speak english doing there lights for $15 a pair. I cannot compete with this whatsoever. I do get some private clients. I usually charge $100 with 5 year warranty which is 5 times more then other people offer. But when i do get business i usually get a 50% tip :) All I can do is pray

my job is to pretty much be the bitch boy at a factory. whatever they need something im the guy who gets the random job. i love it though because there’s nothing better than walking into work and never knowing what your going to spend the day doing. my boss came up to me one day and asked me if i knew construction. i told him a little bit and he handed me a home depot credit card and told me to build a locker room, if i needed i could rent a truck. no other instruction. no dimensions, budget, color, nothing. i wasnt even told where he wanted me to build it. just complete freedom to do what i wanted as long as he had a locker room built. this type of situation happens at least once or twice a week. its pretty cool knowing they trust me so much.
plus 72hrs a week, 40 at $9.25 reg time + 32 at time and a half. im happy with my pay check lol.

DocWalt

There are no temp sensors, they're just basic switches. We have them in an open air rack with Netgear switches that are just about as capable, and the Netgear switches have no fans. They're also much newer than the Cisco ones.

How good is the pay Roy?? I may have to do that. I really need a new job instead of cleaning. Where are you getting your certification? Ya I dont like school much either :)...I was at MSOE for a year and a half but I just couldnt get myself to do any homework or study :). Granted I was passing but not with very good grades. We had a rocking Cisco set up there :).
The newer fan trays have multiple speeds they can run at, so most of our routers are quiet until they get a heavy load on them. But I do have some older 3750s with bad fans that are too loud to run on my desk without annoying the hell out of me.
I've got a PDF of the certification guide so I'm just reading that myself, then I'll test somewhere in town.

I recently got an appointed position that has me administering a tution assistance program for our plant's employees along with overseeing the Joint Technical Training that goes on to keep our skilled trades workforce up to speed on all the new equipment that is coming into our location. One of my job aspects is doing the needs analysis for the Technical training so we can get an idea of who needs what training to do the job assignment at hand. Before this, I spent the last 15 years as a journeyman Machine Repairman and Machinist with the most recent 7 years dealing with resistance spot welding and robots on a daily basis. I make a good paycheck, but is due to the hours that I live at my plant. This year I will wind up working just short of 3100 hours for the year. A 40 hour week year is 2080 hours, so this year will be like working 18 months in a 12 month span. Good money, no life.
