When we last turned our gaze from the world of FBS football, the Bammernecks had won the national title without winning their division, continuing the football dominance by the state of Alabama for the past three years while offering quite a bit of controversy. The SEC cannabalized the Big 12 by taking Texas A&M and Mizzou, while the Big 12 sought to solidify itself by bringing in new powerhouses of its own. Since then, a playoff format has been introduced that may itself prove controversial with the instatement of a playoff committee that will decide the top four playoff teams starting in 2015.

What does this year in college football hold in store for us? Will Texas A&M and Mizzou be pummeled under the might of their new SEC schedules? Will Nick Saban find his twin brother in the Wonka factory? Will Auburn find a quarterback worth a damn? Will Lane Kiffin have USC on probation again within the next three years? Will Bob Stoops finally confess his love for men?

Stay tuned...

Great thread.

A&M is going to have a miserable season. Even their homer fans are only predicting 6 or 7 wins. I see 5, 2 in conference, and no bowl game.

Mizzou is going into the SEC in a much more favorable way. I see them competing and getting 7 to 8 wins, 4 in conference (A&M, Tennessee, UK, and one of Georgia/SoCa/Vandy/Florida).

Texas goes 10-2 :)

Should be a good season. If everyone can stay healthy and the defense can learn the new system WVU should have a solid season. I'm not really sure what to predict just yet though.

Kind of funny that the 10 team B12 has THREE defending conference champions this season :p and SIX teams that won 10 games last season.

I won't be surprised at all if we end up with 3 teams at 10-2. I have a hard time seeing OU being elite with Landry Jones and basically an entirely new set of wide receivers (after basically kicking every WR off the team this off-season). TCU's defense has been gutted by off-the-field issues and Texas' offense is still a work in progress. That said, Tech and KU are the only "off weeks", so there will be quite a few B12 upsets, again. Geno is immediately the best QB in the B12, so if your defense over achieves and keeps you out of the 56 to 56 triple OT games with the likes of K-State...

I see 6 tough games for you. Baylor returns to being Baylor.

Marshall - W
James Madison - W
Maryland - W
vs Baylor - W
@ Texas - ?
@ Tech - W
vs K-State - ?
vs TCU - ?
@ OSU - ?
vs OU - ?
@ ISU - ?
vs KU - W

I see 10-2, but you may beat Texas and/or OU :)

I'm quite excited for the new season. I don't know if we'll (K-State) be able to get 10 wins again but I'm hoping.

Personally I don't know if TCU will be as good as people think they will be. They're coming to the best (or second) conference in the nation and will be playing against top 15 teams nearly every week.

As far as my favorite team is concerned - Texas Tech- seeing as how Tommy T is still our coach I'd be surprised if we get more than four wins. The Aggies are going to tank hard. I think the SEC is going to be a brutal shock to the system.

I'm gonna go with a respective yes(A&M should practice their fetal position now, Mizzou will fare better but not by much), not likely, no, most definitely, and also unlikely.

I really want to say the Huskers are gonna rock this year, but it seems to me they have by far the hardest schedule of the B1G teams. It really comes down to how the defense is under the new coordinator since Carl Pelini is now with Florida Atlantic. If the D can be anywhere near as good as back in the days of Suh, and if Taylor Martinez can develop some passing skill (scary thought) the Huskers could certainly post their best record under Bo Pelini, but if those things don't happen, this year could be really really scary for us Cornhuskers.

Negative, but Ash has a lot of excuses for last season.

I mean, Garrett Gilbert was the one getting nearly all the snaps in the off-season. Case McCoy got back-up reps. All true freshman Ash had was a special zone-read package. Then, of course, he was thrown into the fire against OU after Case sucked (when OU's D was healthy; that OU team that got destroyed by OSU wasn't the same team Texas played). Ash didn't start getting starter snaps until after the OU game and then our four best offensive players got hurt in consecutive weeks (3 RB's, 1 WR).

I don't think expecting Ash to improve considerably (from horrific to average) is unreasonable.

K-State had better pray to the football gods that Klein doesn't get hurt. Beyond Klein, the only other play maker on the team is Hubert. There's realistically no passing game, Klein threw for what like 1900 yards, 13 td's, and 6 int's last year? I look for them to go 6-3(in conference), with losses to WV, Oklahoma, and UT. There's not enough offense, or defense, to stop WV, and the game is in Morgantown. Oklahoma crushed them last year; I don't think that's gonna change. There's not enough offense to get through UT's defense, and UT will have an offense by Dec. 1.

Fuckers Art Briles and Mike Leach (although I generally like Leach) voted Texas #5 and OU #1 in the 2008 coaches poll where OU took 2nd place and Texas 3rd by .013 points. That tiny margin put OU into the B12CG to face ANOTHER team Texas beat by double digits (Mizzou).

Passed over last year in favor of two >10 ranked teams, beating Oklahoma in the 2003 Big 12 championship and Oklahome went on to the championship game, and to top it all off losing one game in 98 that kept them not only out of the championship game, but also out of any BCS bowl game.

Austin should expect a helluva WV turnout. It's a huge talking point that I hear tons of fans saying they're wanting to make that game.

Tickets aren't available yet, so no clue at this point. Single home game tickets aren't even available yet, they're still processing season tickets, apparently. Yeah, would be the wife and I, and only for the weekend (if we can go, depends on how cost prohibitive a flight from here to Austin is). The university has a package deal, but it's outrageous. Like $1,700 a person, but it is a private chartered flight.

Checking flights now. Most departures(back to home) are from Fort Hood/Killeen. How far away is that?

I've found a better deal. In and out of ABIA, 2 nights at a hotel that looks to be very close to Darrell K, for $1,000. We'd arrive at 1:45pm at ABIA on Friday the 5th, and leave Sunday the 7th at 10:00am. That seems like a pretty good deal to me. Curious, how much are your season tix? The ones I'm looking at are $2,300. They're pretty good seats, but far from the best. WVU is different. All seats are $395 for the season, BUT, in order to even be allowed to purchase them you have to make a donation to the Mountaineer Athletic Club. Different seats have minimum donation levels, and that does not guarantee you'll even end up in that section if you're a new MAC member. They go by seniority, and amount of donation, for priority seating. To get just "good" seats, you're looking at a minimum of $1,100 per seat. However, 80% of your MAC donation is tax deductible, so that eases the sting.

Well it's kinda similar to that here but we basically have an exemption because my father is handi-capped so we don't have to do the whole donation thing. What I do know is we're looking at around $140 per game for 2 seats and parking in the lot nearest the stadium. Now on the other hand I did find out these last few months that to be able to get into our parking lot you would normally have to donate a minimum of $5K per year. I have no idea as far as what the donation would be for our seats, but they are front row in the end zone about 10 yards in from the sideline. While the new north end of the stadium was under construction though, we had literally the best seats in the house, field-level at the corner of the endzone right under the student section. I literally had a 2 ft high fence and padding between me and the field and on a few occasions actually celebrated touchdowns with the players :D. That section is now the Sideline Club and I am sure there is a $5K or so minimum annual donation to sit there.

P.S. I forgot to mention, and I don't know what it is like for WVU, but the Huskers have sold out every game since the 60s so there is a LONG waiting list for season tickets, so if a Husker fan was in your situation it could end up being a once in decade chance for tickets.

Details emerge regarding Michael Dyer (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/details-emerge-regarding-michael-dyer-dismissal-arkansas-state-000408545--ncaaf.html)

A day after Arkansas State released running back Michael Dyer for a "violation of team rules," details are starting to emerge about what prompted Dyer's dismissal.

According to several published reports, Dyer's troubles stemmed from a traffic stop on March 10. He was stopped for going 96 in a 70 mph zone and was fined $17 and given five days of community service.

But it's what the Jonesboro Sun found when it dug deeper that contributed to Dyer's downfall (the Sun story is behind a paywall so I'm linking another source). According to the paper, the state trooper who made the stop also found a handgun and a substance believed to be marijuana in the car but omitted both finds and no charges were ever filed.

The Sun obtained the video of the stop, which includes a conversation between Little Rock Christian graduate Dyer and Trooper Royce Denney, who either knew or came to know Dyer was a football player. The videotape shows Denney asking Dyer if the gun is registered.

"Carrying a pistol around? Uncool ... You've got a career ahead of you but you're being a total dumbass right now," the newspaper quotes from the video.

Denney says he could report the incident to Coach Gus Malzahn, but adds: "What's the best way to make you think? You're a grown man and I'm not trying to treat you like a kid." He also reportedly tells Dyer he doesn't want to tell Malzahn about the incident "because of the NCAA crap."

According to the newspaper account of the video, Dyer responds: "I'm done with this. This is my second chance over here." He urged Denney to take the gun. Eventually, Denney turns the camera off.

The state trooper is currently under investigation for his actions and comments during the stop.

This isn't the first time Dyer has been involved in a gun-related incident. Dyer was suspended at Auburn after a gun he owned was used in an armed robbery by teammates. Dyer was not involved in the incident but testified about how the gun ended up being used in the crime.

That trial occurred in April, a little more than a month after Dyer's traffic stop. At the time, Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn said he was aware of Dyer's role in the robbery and said he was confident he had learned from his mistake.

"I am fully aware of Mike's circumstances," Malzahn said in a statement released by the school. "He knows very well the high standard we have of all our players here at Arkansas State, and I'm confident that he will meet those expectations."

From Malzahn's statement, it appears as though he was not aware of Dyer's covered-up transgression. If so, you can't blame Malzahn for letting Dyer go. He gave him a second chance after Auburn, trusted him, vouched for him, put faith in him and was lied to and let down.

Malzahn appeared in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday, but refused to answer any questions about Dyer.

Another one bites the dust. Good riddance.

Auburn quarterback Zeke Pike transferring, says Gene Chizik | al.com (http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/08/auburn_quarterback_zeke_pike_t.html#incart_hbx)

AUBURN, Alabama -- Auburn coach Gene Chizik said Wednesday that freshman quarterback Zeke Pike is no longer a member of the football team and will transfer.

Chizik reaffirmed that defensive back Jonathan Rose is off the team as well, and plans to transfer.

"They're not with our football team anymore. Their intent is to transfer to another school. We wish them the best," Chizik said after the first day of fall practice.

Chizik said the decision not to bring Pike back was made in the last 7-10 days.

Chizik sent both players home for the summer. Pike was sent home after being arrested for public intoxication.

Chizik said quarterback Clint Moseley looked good, having bounced back from a sore shoulder that limited him in the spring.

"He's full go," Chizik said.

On freshman Jonathan Wallace, the freshman who can take Pike's place.

"He's capitalized," Chizik said.

Do you like Jonathan Wallace more? What's the long term plan at QB? *edit* LOL, looked at your recruiting class to figure out who your other QB was, should've just finished reading the quoted text!

And it's official, Anthony Fera has escaped from Pedo State and is now a Longhorn.

I've heard a lot of great things about Wallace. He was regarded as a great "diamond in the rough" pick to supplement our recruiting class last year and was a spectacular in-state player. Practice reports indicate he had a fantastic summer and has really impressed his teammates. I'm actually willing to bet that he sneaks ahead of Moseley for the #2 spot before midseason.

He's listed as a dual-threat QB, but, like Frasier, he will be looking to pass first always.

Real question marks for Texas going into 2012? Can the QB position go from abysmal to competent and can our tradition of amazingly clutch kickers continue?

you guys need to kick Colt brother to the curb. And the other kid sucked also. Last season I was like holy crap if you guys had a qb you would have had a shot. It was like watching insanely talented recievers standing wide open only to get over thrown or way off to the side... It was painful watching the horrible passing to wide open guys.

Ha, agreed for the most part. Case McCoy is a serviceable back-up with virtually no upside. He'd be a great back-up if not for his helicopter dad (who isn't doing Colt any favors in the NFL).

I think Ash will take a significant step forward this season, but if he doesn't, we've got 2 potential freshman to throw at the wolves...

Toomer's Oaks Update - Office of Communications and Marketing - Auburn University (http://ocm.auburn.edu/news/oaks.html)

Update (8/8/12)
The Toomer's Corner Oaks were pruned significantly today for safety reasons, based on advice from Auburn University's Tree Preservation Committee. A tree service contractor, under the supervision of Auburn's Facilities Management, removed weakened branches above the plaza and streets at the corner of College Street and Magnolia Avenue. The work was done between summer and fall semesters because of fewer pedestrians on campus and less vehicle traffic. While long-term decisions about the trees have not been made, fans are still welcome to gather at the corner this fall and continue the tradition of rolling the trees with toilet paper.

The Oklahoma tickets will be absurdly priced. That's why I said f it and shelled out a few grand for season tickets. Comes out to $142.85 per seat, per game, and my seats are top notch.

In any event I hope to catch up with you at a game...or two. :)

With our depth chart released, the #1 RB is Shawne Alston. This guy is a beast, 5'11" and 236 lbs, who can cut and shift at will, or bust it right between the tackles(think Stevie Slaton). I'd also expect to see a lot more Geno keepers. Our running game is going to be pretty strong.

There's no need to discuss our passing game. ;)

Our defense has progressed very, very, nicely. Coaches are saying they're having a very difficult time looking at freshman for redshirting as they all came to play and are giving unbelievable effort.

All in all, it appears the team as a whole is really coming together. I'm 100% bought in and am expecting a stellar season.

Texas has (4) absurd running backs.
5-star soph Malcolm Brown (all around back)
4-star soph Joe Bergeron (power back that punishes defenders, could be the best of the bunch)
5-star fresh Johnathon Grey (all around back, NFL size as a high school senior)
4-star fresh Daje Johnson (scat back, really shocking the staff as he was a late steal from TCU; may end up in the slot)

Tight end is a disappointment, still, which is a big freaking issue in Harsin's motion-Boise offense. They're all turning out to be poor blockers AND poor pass catchers. We haven't had a tight end since Jermichael Finley left early and Blaine Irby got hurt. I will never understand how our tight end coach didn't get fired.

WR doesn't have much depth and is very young regardless. Oldest contributors here are senior Marquis Goodwin (finally returned to the team after his disappointing long jump showing in London) and one junior, Mike Davis, who appears poised for a huge year.

Unless Ash can take a major step forward, I'm not excited about our QB situation heading into the 2013 season. Our team will be LOADED for a 2013 championship run and our best QB may be freshman Connor Brewer or Jalen Overstreet. Fingers crossed that Shipley doesn't lead the team in TD passes (okay, he only had 3, but Ash only had 4 and McCoy only had 7) and QB rating again.. LOL

This team will beat you slowly and surely with what appears to be the best Texas defense since 2005 and a conservative offense. Nothing will be pretty or easy.

Anything less than 10 wins this season is a major disappointment, but we're still recovering from our previous coaching regime's bad habits that were allowed to fester by Mack.

Of course, this is all conjecture; the season hasn't even started. :)

The base set is a 3-4, but we can switch to a 4-3 instantly. There's some hybrid LB positions as well. The secondary has much more freedom in this new D, and the players say they understand this defense better than the stack. There will be lots of disguised formations...and blitzing, FINALLY! From everything I've read (a lot), I'm confident our defense will be at least 'good'.

Can not wait to destroy Marshall. This will be the 1st game in 3 years that Doc doesn't know shit about our offense or defense. I anticipate an Orange Bowl type score.

Good article. Off base on a few items, but overall pretty good. I'm unsure of why Pat Miller was called a noobie, he was the starter last year. He's the #1 player in my hate-dar week-in, week-out, though. He always finds a way to screw up. Though he did have an excellent Orange Bowl. Broderick Jenkins the other one referred to as a noobie, stepped in for Pat Miller and did a phenomenal job. All in all, I'm glad this defense is being looked down upon; they thrive in that situation. They're going to allow a lot of big plays, no doubt, but they're going to make up for it in turnovers.

Ivan McCartney is not even really in the mix as a receiver. His head isn't straight, and he's always hurt. JD Woods will start over McCartney. Jordan Thompson, a true freshman is going to turn a lot of heads. This kid is Tavon Austin the 2nd. He's one to watch.

Downplaying out o-line by saying they don't really have to do much is a mistake. Our o-line will be one of the best corps in the Country.

The one thing most everyone does not realize is we had significant injuries last year, with almost no depth. That's why we got raped by Cuse, and fell to L'ville. When everyone was healthy, ala the Orange Bowl, the 1st glimpse of what we were capable of was finally seen.

Dustin Garrison is also not the #2 back, Andrew Buie is. That may change through the season, but the depth chart is Buie at #2 as of Monday.

The offense will perform every week this year. These guys are vets, confident, and in year 2 of the Holgy offense.

The offense will perform every week this year. These guys are vets, confident, and in year 2 of the Holgy offense.

"Kansas State 21, Texas 17: K-State's mastery of the boys in Austin continues yet again. The last time Texas came to Manhattan, Garrett Gilbert threw five interceptions and the Wildcats threw four total passes. This one's tight all the way through, just like last year in Austin, but Collin Klein cracks the defensive showdown with a few clutch throws late to push K-State over the edge with a go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes. " -David Ubben

Not to say anything, but this is from his predicting the season articles. I'm surprised to learn we only threw 4 passes in an entire game. Only reason I posted this.

Here's some heart-warming news for the week. Shon Coleman, our star offensive lineman of the class of 2010 who was diagnosed with cancer right after Signing Day, is the 2nd string left tackle on the depth chart this year as a RS Freshman.

An earlier story:

Teammates cheer as cancer survivor Shon Coleman practices for the first time at Auburn | al.com (http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/04/teammates_cheer_as_cancer_surv.html)

In other news, our 1st string center was arrested for public intox this weekend, so we have to move up another inexperienced lineman into our starting ranks. Somehow this team feels just as young as it was last year.

Well, on the bright side, we do have a lot of returning starters, a lot more depth, and a ton of talent, but we are still very young. I anticipate a similar season to last year for us with a better defense. Anything more than eight wins in the regular season for us is fantastic.

From BC's SotU on Texas:

As for Tight End, well, it goes like this: Greg Daniels was playing 4th string DT for us, lost 30 pounds, moved to TE, had eleven practices, and moved to #2 on the depth chart. So, yeah.

Just depends on the quality of the seat. I honestly have no idea what the OU tickets are going to cost. It was almost $100 to sit balls deep in the upper deck overlooking an end zone and I'm NOT settling for that this year.

I expect the chOklahoma@WV game seats to sell for megabucks. The LSU game last year in Morgantown was absurd in pricing. The cheapest you can get the seats I have is $1,640 and that's only if they were already your seats the year before. We have an athletic club. To get season tix you must donate to them, then they will consider you for seats. Also works on seniority. Extremely difficult to get good seats unless you're a longtime holder, or donate an assload of money.

All seats at WVU are $395 for the season. However, each section has assigned, minimum, donation levels. Mine are $400 per seat, which is the 2nd best section. The best section is $500. Again, that's minimum. You join the athletic club now, and donate $500...highly unlikely you'll get either of the 2 best sections. Politics...

Ash looked good, especially for a true soph... He under threw both of his deep attempts, but looked sharp in the short passing game... 20/27 for 156 with a TD

Both Brown and Bergeron ran for over 100 yards, averaging 7.5 and 7.3 per carry, respectively. We ran outside at will but struggled some inside.

The middle of our defense was exploited early in the game. Hopefully it was just miscommunication between our new safety and two new linebackers.

Our special teams were absolutely dirty other than our kicker. We left 7 points on the field missing a PAT and 2 easy field goals. Our Penn State transfer kicker can't get healthy soon enough.

All in all I like what I saw. It will be interesting to see how Wyoming does the rest of the year.

It's just like seriously? You obviously no nothing of why WVU will not be playing FSU and WVU still crushed Marshall with a brand new defense. Really who cares what the defense does when the offense hangs 10 TD's up.

We finished last year in 13th according to the BCS and won our bowl.

AP had us 9th in their final poll of the year.

Yeah, but he's just not a pocket passer. They won games last year by keeping the defense honest. Run D Rob to set up the pass. If they stick with what they did Saturday, it's going to be a long year for Michigan. Of course getting Toussaint back will help a lot.

Jeremy

Alan92RTTT
09-04-2012, 10:55 AM
Having Tousaunt(SP) out was a huge loss to the offence and that left our QB as the only credible running threat. Without a second running threat the D just focuses on Denard and he gets no place. IMO his passing is way improved over last year. I read some place that we were one of the few teams to post over 200 years of O vs Alabama's D.

The sign is very much real, but it might be retaliation from longhorn internets over the first sign. A&M is officially claiming they had nothing to do with it, which I believe given the lack of logos. So it was either a vigilante aggie or someone else...

But they're bringing the air raid to the SEC? With a pro-style O-line recruited under Sherman? And a freshman QB? Tech's air raid vs Ole Miss went well. Oklahoma State vs Ole Miss went well too. Granted, it will be tougher to prepare for the air raid given just a week in the regular season...

This happened.

Auburn Tigers vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs - Recap - September 08, 2012 - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=322520344)

The Tigers were handcuffed by a passing game that alternated between non-existent and atrocious. Frazier was especially bad in the first half -- completing just 1 of 7 passes for minus-2 yards and two interceptions.

...

Mississippi State outgained Auburn 388-216, and even that wide margin doesn't do the rout justice. The Tigers had just 90 total yards through three quarters, moving the ball only when the Bulldogs had the game well in hand.

No quarterback and poor coaching gives us a legitimate shot of losing to LaMo this week (the team that beat Arkansas). If that happens expect Chizik's seat to get very hot. No excuse for less than 6 wins on a team loaded with talent like this at a perennial top 25 school.

I have to say AF's offence was cool to watch. I had trouble keeping track of who had the ball. I lost count of the last second pitches. At times I wondered if they were playing "hot potato" with football.

Have you seen there O? Its fun to watch but I can see it as something that really only works well against a team that is not used to seeing it.

As the game progressed the MI D got better at stopping them. When the game started I thought it was going to be a game of he who scores most wins.

No quarterback and poor coaching gives us a legitimate shot of losing to LaMo this week (the team that beat Arkansas). If that happens expect Chizik's seat to get very hot. No excuse for less than 6 wins on a team loaded with talent like this at a perennial top 25 school.

It would be hilarious if ULM got TWO SEC wins. Maybe they'll end up with more SEC wins than A&M...

@1:00.... This was a broken play, but he turned it into a 28yd td. With Geno showing he can run, there's officially nothing a defense can sell out on for our offense this year. Run, pass, qb scramble, it's all there. Our D just needs to stay on assignment, especially the corners (looking right at you Pat Miller).

In that case, perhaps it's just a matter of knowing where to look. Ash looked good for the most part. A couple "WTF?" type plays but exactly where we'd hope he would be at this point.

My favorite thing about the LHN is the shows where you get Harsin, Diaz, and Mack each breaking down individual plays. Otherwise it's just non-stop sports coverage, replays of the New Mexico game, replays of classic games, presser coverage... It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

Western Illinois @ Iowa State - 6 p.m.

Texas @ Ole Miss - 8:15 p.m. ESPN

I agree, though I want to see some of the TCU v. Kansas game just because it's TCU intro to the B12. Ole Piss leads the SEC in offensive production...granted they haven't played any real competition yet. Bo Wallace is a pretty damn good qb. Y'all better be ready, they're kind of a K-State type team with respect to the qb play :)

If Scott doesn't play for JMU, it's going to be very, very, ugly. I hope he can play; I want their best...FCS or not, no excuses.

Not really melt-down mode yet. A lot of it is Bammers posing as Auburn fans and posting on AU message boards. There are a few true AU fans calling for his head, but the sane ones understand the current situation and are willing to see the season through before making rash decisions.

If Auburn loses this weekend though, expect chaos.

If you'll recall,

Texas co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin talked to Wallace twice on the phone, but the team decided not to offer the dual-threat quarterback a scholarship. Head coach Mack Brown isn’t sure Wallace would have come to Austin, anyhow, seeing his coach at East Mississippi Community College, Hugh Freeze, had just taken the head job in Oxford.

Texas QB David Ash “didn’t really know” about recruitment of Bo Wallace | College Sports Blog (http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2012/09/texas-qb-david-ash-didnt-really-know-about-recruitment-of-bo-wallace.html/)

So yeah, I've seen enough Bo Wallace film to wish he was in Austin.

I'm confident that our D will give up some points early (the first drive or two) but constrict quickly and then beat Ole Miss up.

This would've been a fun road game...

Live feed of the grove: The University of Mississippi - Campus Live Cams (http://www.olemiss.edu/livecam/union/full.html)

For starters, there are a shitload of Texans here this weekend. Of course, there are just simply a shitload of Texans to begin with, but what we have on our hands right now is a full-fledged invasion. I would say that, of the people I saw out eating and drinking, a solid third of them were in burnt orange and white.

The difference between this bunch, though, and the throngs of LSU, Alabama, and State fans we're more accustomed to seeing in Oxford, is their general amicability. Perhaps they are that impressed by our hospitality and what our little corner of the world has to offer. Perhaps they do understand how a proper guest acts (He doesn't dress like a broke-ass pimp or rattle an antiquated piece of farm equipment welded to a bicycle handle, for example.) and are carrying themselves accordingly. Or perhaps they are just looking forward to all of this as much as we are. Whatever it is, they've been great so far.

Everything from Old Taylor to the Square to the Grove was as packed as I've ever seen any of it. This is certainly on a level approaching, if not matching, the sheer volume of humanity that was present in Oxford for the 2003 LSU game. It is just that wild.

After reading more about this team, I'm anxious to see our secondary get truly tested. I think Bo Wallace and the WR's are legit, but their defense is undersized. Ole Miss may score enough early to make the game interesting...

very excited about the way the Texas offense played against Ole Miss. Through 3 games, the offense has run just 5 negative plays. They're staying on schedule and there are SO many weapons now. The defense got gashed a bit, mostly after Hicks (best LB) got injured. Bergeron (RB) and Hicks each suffered shoulder injuries, otherwise it's all smiles from my end... 676 yards of offense the most in several decades at Texas and 66 points, the most since VY hung 70 on Colorado in the '05 B12 Championship.

Ash's current stats:
55/72 (76%), 703 yards (234/game), 7 TD, 0 INT, 2 sacks, 190.5 rating
11 carries, 58 yards. 5.3/carry, 1 TD

Bye week before starting conference play against Okie State.

That gamey Louisiana Monroe team that took Arkansas and Auburn to OT is hosting Baylor this week.

OU comes off a bye to face K-State. We should learn a ton about both teams in that match-up with conference title implications... Then OU gets their final off week before beginning 9 straight weeks of conference play (and Notre Dame Oct 27th). That would make me nervous if I were a sooner fan...

Maryland looks pretty terrible, so it will be another week before we learn much about WVU (hosting Baylor on Sep 29)

Agreed on the OU game streak. That's a brutal run.

Yes, Maryland is turrible, though this game is their superbowl so they'll be giving 210% effort, like always. If they played everyone like they play us, they wouldn't be too bad. Baylor will handle them I think. ULM is a good team, but Arkansas is terrible without their starting QB and Auburn is terrible period. We had the game against ULM well in hand and should have ended up ahead by three scores by the end of the third quarter but our team all of a sudden decided to forget how to play, fumbling balls five yards from the endzone and throwing picks to opposing jerseys like we thought they were wearing orange and blue.

All that said, statistics show that we are actually better through the first three games this year than we were last year, with the only uncommon opponent being ULM. I guess not having a decent quarterback has that much of an impact on the team.

If Baylor handles them it will be because of the film on ULM from the first 2 weeks. I won't be surprised by any outcome because I don't think Baylor comes anywhere near matching their 10 win 2011 season... I see 2 or 3 conference, 5-7 or 6-6 overall.

What happened to Trotter?

*edit* After reading about him, it looks like he wasn't the answer either.

Trotter played lights out in our bowl game last year, but he's on record as stating that it was hinted to him by Malzahn that Frazier would be the starter next year, so he decided to leave early instead of sitting his senior year on the bench. Of course, Malzhan left soon after, and Trotter would have fit perfectly in the system we have now.

Moseley is a headcase and doesn't have near the arm that Frazier has, especially since his injury in the offseason, but he does have more experience. His lack of mobility is an issue but our OL play has been amazing over the first three games. Frazier has had all the time in the world to throw the ball but he just doesn't trust himself yet. In the first half against ULM it seemed like the lightbulb finally clicked on for him. You could visibly see his head turn as he went through his progressions and he was making strong, accurate throws. After his INT in the third quarter though everything went downhill.

We did play down a bit, but this is a big rivalry game, aka Maryland's superbowl. They give 200% effort against us. If they played that hard every game, they wouldn't be half bad.

In the postgame, I heard one of our coaches say Maryland ran an offense unlike what we saw on tape. All in all, our defense adjusted pretty good. The offense was down, Geno's timing and the routes being run were a hair off. We got used to having that power run game, as well, and Alston didn't play.

Bring on Baylor. It's homecoming week, our 1st B12 game, and our 1st ranked opponent. Can't wait.

Auburn played up big time. It's like lights clicked on for almost everyone on defense at the end of the first quarter all at the same time. I haven't seen Auburn play defense like that since Tuberville left. If we can maintain that type of play on the defensive side we will be scary by the end of the year. Hell, we would be 3-1 if we had that kind of play earlier in the season.

Offense made strides but still subpar. I'm confident the light will eventually come on for Keihl and he'll just go beastmode one game. Hope it's vs Arkansas, and that is believable since their defense is atrocious.

LSU is very good, maybe even better on defense than they were last year. Bama vs LSU will be close but it is in Death Valley this year. LSU's offense is very run heavy and Auburn was able to stop it for the most part. We matched up well against LSU and I had a feeling our game would be much closer than everyone thought, even though their offense had scored 9073250735 points in the first three games. Our defense just has fits against the spread.
