Today I attempted to run my fogs separately from my lows by doing this (http://www.moojohn.com/stealth/fogmods/) mod. My fogs didnt stay on though. Instead, my highs did. I assumed that I tapped into the wrong wire, so I just taped up that wire. I reconnected the wire to the correct FOG pin. I didnt understand that the fog light button wouldnt be functional, so I just undid the mod and taped up/ reconnected the cut wires.

When I turned on my running lights, I realized that my dash and center gauges (all stock) were dim. I also realized that my fogs were still on. I pressed the fog switch, and the fogs turned off and the dash got brighter (normal brightness).

I then turned on my lows. My dash lights and center gauges dimmed no matter. My fogs turned on when the fog switch was in the off position, and turned off when the switch was in the on position. I had to go to work, so I just removed the "fog" relay that was under the hood.

When I turned the lows on again for a couple seconds, I noticed that the HID lows dimmed more when the fogs were supposed to be on (even though I removed the relay). I just turned off the lows.

On my way home from work, I turned on my lows. I saw smoke by my gauges and smelled it. I turned off my lows and just kept my running lights on.

When I finally go home, I put the fog relay back in. The fogs wouldnt turn on though.

What do you guys think the issues are?

At the 5th step, I cut the wire between the relay and fog AFTER I connected the wire to the "tail" wire. Would that be what caused the issue?

sounds like you may have wired it wrong, you SURE that you tapped into the proper locations?

Im almost positive. I undid the mod, and restored the wiring to how it is from the factory. That didnt fix anything.

well you smoked something, that is why...now to figure out what you fried.

I have done this mod and it worked just fine, what year is your car?

My car is a '95 Base. Thanks for the help so far.

hmm IIRC that mod should of worked for your car, you probably did the relay jump wrong.

no clue with the smoke coming from the dash, that is so not a good sign. without knowing what you did tap int it is anybodys guess.

Under the hood, I touched 3 wires. They were all in the "relay box." I touched the tail and fogs relays. On the tails relay, I used the middle wire. On the fog relay, I used the bottom two wires.

The one above the "B" was a no no THAT is your problem. BUT I could not tell you what you fried.

Awesome, THANKS!! So, if I bring the car to the mechanic and have them follow the wire above the "B" and the tail wire (because I connected them), then they should find the problem.. correct?

Im not sure how complicated these lighting circuits are and what they tie into.

at best yes, might want to find a shop that deals mainly with electrical if you can.

Ive researched, and cant find any shops who specialize in electrical systems.

After thinking more about this, couldnt my headlight switch be "blown?"

The smoke was coming from the inside of my car (no smoke under the hood), and the smoke was infront of my gauges. I didnt see ANY by my feet.

Also, the smoke started when I turned on my headlights (with the switch). The switch also controls the fogs (which are dead). The switch controls my dash lights too (turns on the backlight when the switch is on either running lights or lows.

Wouldnt the headlight switch be the most probable culprit?

Im going to have the mechanic test the switch first.
