Is the Nitro a true double din? I sat in one Tuesday, looked like a din and a half

pioneer has some good units for a lot less than $1000

Amazon.com: Pioneer AVIC-X940BT In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with 6.1" WVGA Touchscreen and Built-In Bluetooth: Car Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVIC-X940BT-Navigation-Touchscreen-Bluetooth/dp/B006Y443TU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1339771172&sr=8-2&keywords=pioneer+navigation)

I'm only running the avh-2400bt, don't really care about navigation since a garmin is like $100 now with lifetime updates.

We used to sell Pioneer until they started selling to Wal-Mart and quality went down the drain. I would recommend staying away from Pioneer.

Dude they offered a line that is lower than what you carried to get a piece of that market. The non-walmart stuff is still good.

Probably a stupid question, but why doesn't he just get a used mygig radio... it should be plug-n-play and has all the features he is look for. There a few on eBay for less than $1000 and he could probably get it cheaper on the dodge forums. They are actually a very nice set-up, I have one in the Challenger.

What exactly defines quality in your mind? The 2400-bt unit I have has exceeded all of my expectations and has far better reviews than the Apline unit you posted.

Now if we are going to get in an arguement similar as to why stereo shops will try to sell you monster cable then don't bother.

I have a Kenwood 7160 DVD + Garmin. A lot of Pioneer folks leave and join Kenwood. They complain about the crappy navigation and unit freeze ups. Kenwoods are not perfect either. They are a little laggy but I'm totally happy with mine.

We carry Pioneer. If there is something you like and you find it cheaper, just let me know and we'll do our best to price match. I've run a lot of their head units (none with gps though) and they have all worked really well.

We quit selling in 2008 after a 3/10 defect ratio. Can't tell you how many radios came to us with sawdust in the faceplates or quit working exactly 1 year after install. Then we had customers coming in from Wal-Mart with the same radio we sell for $10 less and decided it was time to drop the brand.

we'll it is 2012 and I'm not talking about a $100 head unit here. You ever think maybe the sawdust could come from the shop that installed it? Why would a pioneer head unit factory be working on wood?

The sawdust came directly from the factory it was shipped from, inside the faceplate, on numerous units. The defect rate didn't seem to be contained to the lower end units but at random. One of our 12v distributors also quit carrying Pioneer along with Dual Electronics due to high defect rates right around the same time.

This would not be plug and play

Really... because they do come in the Nitro from the factory Dave.

I was able to switch from the shitty radio in the Ram to a REC... plug and play, only had to add the Nav antenna.

Says plug and play here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-2011-DODGE-GRAND-CARAVAN-NITRO-CD-DVD-RHR-GPS-MYGIG-RADIO-NAVIGATION-SYSTEM-/140772468750?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item20c6b1680e&vxp=mtr

Depending on the year of course ....Ours look like this :

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/golfpro518/Wiring/Headunitrear.jpg

1. 10 Disc changer output
2. Output to infinity amp
3. Antenna input
4. Antenna input (from tailgate glass) (3000gt diversity antenna)
5. Radio plug ( this plug looks to have speaker connections to the rears and doors But the infinity HU has no output to it.)
6. Steering wheel controls (some of these will have 2 wires not in 97-99 though) The second connection if available mutes the radio....

You do realize the guy is looking for a headunit for a 2011 Dodge Nitro right?

That new clarion deck is pretty slick probably has the coolest GUI of everything out there right now.

IMO Clarion and JVC/Kenwood still have the best Nav and GUI. Yes I said JVC/Kenwood because JVC owns Kenwood. While there are some differences, they are also very similar. JVC 2012 Stuff is awesome, and is also the fastest one on the market currently. Pioneer is not bad by any means, I just have never been a big fan of their Nav software.

Yep the new clarions have the BEST GUI hands down. Kenwoods weak point is the long boot up time. It got better for their current models but still not "fast" .
