Has anyone ever ventured into eliminating the rear hatch glass? I've been wanting to do something a little different from the rest lately, if you can dig up any pictures of successfully done jobs post please share. Thanks guys!

Some guy in GA did it but it had humps behind the driver and passenger heads. I don't think people liked it too much. I can't find any pic of it right now.

Didn't that one have a targa top, or the top cut off?

It had a weird sunroof, I can't find a pic of the back.

Oh, that's a different one than I am thinking of. The one I was thinking of had a targa, or cut top, with a cover that hid the hatch area, and lumps behind each headrest. I can't get on the site it was posted on anymore...

I think I've seen the one Coopkill is talking about, and I wasn't much impressed, but I love this. Many won't... I can't wait to see what comes of it.
I have a spare deck in the garage, and untill now, haven't figured out what I want to do with it.

You have seen the one I was talking about (I think). It was at BRG last year I believe. Now that I think about it you didn't make last year did you?

What happened to the rear quarter??
paul, there's a pic of it on my old 3si account--if you wanted to track it down.
are you going with vented rear fenders, parker? ala ferrari 360?
personally, i think it'll make our cars look like a 2g mr2 with a body kit--so i'm not too keen on it. i'm sure it'd look stranger with 3kgt sails than stealth sails though.

I agree. But if I were to take a shot at it with a 3k, I believe I'd do away with the rear quarter windows altogether, leaving only that little fake window.
I'll be the 1st to admit my fiberglass skills aren't up to it yet, but I'm learning. Old dogs can learn new tricks, and on occasion, I surprise myself.

I've tried to track it down, I can find pics of the car but not the back. I might look under your account later.

No, couldn't make it last year. The change in timing prevented me from getting away. :(

Although there is some good creativity/craftsmanship... That looks like shit (sorry to the owner). I think if I were to carry the sail panels down the car a bit further it'd look more appropriate, but that's more work than I'm willing to endure.

God knows I'm not a purist. Anyone who's seen mine knows I could care less if it looks stock, but it has to flow, and when I look at that it kinda hurts my eyes. Like J said, nice craftsmanship, and I also applaud his creativity, but it doesn't work for me.
It does convince me that the rear quarter windows (on a 3k, at least) won't work with the notched deck, and I think that would look better if the sail panels just extended all the way over those windows. It also points out my first concern, and that's getting a clean flow from the back of the deck to the rear window, as that upturn just behind the rain gutter thing is gonna be hard to deal with, at least with my limited skills.
Without the humps, the straking, the rear quarter windows and the spoiler, I can see that working though.
Looking at J's mockup and squinting a little, I still think it can be done nicely, given some thought.
massive quarters that delete the windows has been done. the ferman-x gto had that crap, and it looks like garbage--imho.
i would never notch a 3/s. the canopy shape on these cars is perfect---i wouldn't mess with that one bit.

It's all part of the total package. Doing away with the rear quarter window, while it wouldn't work by itself, may work with a notched hatch. The profile would remain essentially unchanged.
Just going with Stealth sails would prolly be the simplest solution to the 3k sails not working though. That's something I've been considering, notched hatch or no. And having a spare deck to work with, I'd not be doing anything that's not easily removed if I notch it and it looks like crap.

Would you not have been better keeping the hatch frame and building from that, this way you could just swap hatches if you wanted to go back to stock?.

Hatch is still intact, just missing the glass. So swapping or opening the hatch is no biggie.
