View Full Version : Prometheus
...well sorry all you fartwads in the US, but i just saw a movie you won't get for another week. :p
i must say...if you like the alien saga, this movie is a MUST SEE. the tie-ins are very subtle & well done. i get the impression that ridley scott is kind of circumventing the AVP storyline, as there were only ties to the original movie--and strong, but not overwhelming ones.
nothing groundbreaking, nothing bombastic, yet nothing underwhelming. it probably won't stick in your mind like the one-liners that the avengers has, but still a very solid movie. i'd give it an A-.

I rarely go to movies anymore, but I think I'll go see this one. The original Alien movie is one of my all time favs.

All I needed to hear, I'm a BIG fan of the first 2 movies and enjoyed some of the others. I hope this is a prequel to the 1st Alien movie.

Of course I've seen every Alien(s) and/or/vs Predator(s) movies... I very rarely go to the theater, but I do for these  They always disappoint me because nothing compares to Alien and Aliens, but I can't help myself.
I think I saw Alien when I was like 8 or 9. I watched Aliens SO many times growing up. I couldn't get enough of the scene where the marines go into the Alien hive. Just saying that makes me want to watch it again... "DRAKE!!! WE. ARE. LEAVE-ING!!" Hicks is the shit. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I just recently saw the first 2 Terminators :o They always looked so dumb (they kind of were)
So I read the first line of your post and replied because I assume there are spoilers/expectation-builders in there.

Seems to be more its total shit than its a must see on the interwebs anyway...
Still on the fence myself but will most likely go see it.

do NOT go see it expecting a prequel to alien. it does tie in...but if what you expect is more of the same, you'll be disappointed. scott did not want to cover the same ground, and i applaud him for it.
p.s.
noomi rapace is one of my new favorite actresses---she did an AMAZING job in the sweedish (original & best) version of the millenium series (girl with the dragon tattoo). the 6-part series is on netflix if you want to watch it.

I honestly don't want to see a modern day version of alien but I was hoping this would be what happened before alien. Seeing the space jockey and his ship in the previews is what really made me jump up and down excited to see it.
Thank you, nameless/faceless purple fetishist.

I can not wait to see this movie. I'm honestly surprise by it not being a pre-alien movie. I thought for sure that's what it would be.

I hope I can find time to see it. with the NG coming I may not have time for a few weeks.
Hum.... Maybe Friday morning at the NG ;)

I saw it on Sunday and really liked it. I've now got to rewatch Alien to see just how well the story meshes. I thought Alien took place on a moon (LV426?) and Prometheus was on a planet with a moon. That alone doesn't in any way prevent the stories from meshing, I'm just curious.

Pretty sure LV426 was a planet, but I could be wrong.

Ridley Scott came out at some point during production and said that it was not a direct prequel, but it does take place in the same "universe" as the alien movies (and that there would be strong tie-ins, etc.)
It also strongly followed many of the same themes as the original Alien, but this movie did a very good job with the subtle things, nuances, etc. Will watch again/watch sequels

There are only two Terminator movies worth watching IMHO, the 3rd and 4th (and soon to be subsequent 5th & 6th) movies were just to make money. Terminator 2 is one of my favorite all time movies, has been since I was a kid. One of the few instances I can come up with where the 2nd movie in a series is stronger than the first.

Going OT a bit, but you started it... :D
This 6 part series you speak of... This is different than the movie we got in the states?
I did like that movie, but I was kinda "meh..." about it's character development from one of my all time favorite book trilogies...
