It would be a fun ride but way too much money. $149k plus a GT500. No thanks. I'll take an upgraded GTR or twin turbo Viper over that for much less cost.

God that thing is ugly. I wouldn't drive that if someone gave it to me :p.. Well I would, just once.

can't you take a base corvette to chuck mallett and get that same effect for about 1/2 the total price?

p.s.
is this 1000 hp mustang even as fast as a stock jet cobra mustang?

To bad at the end of the day it's still a Mustang, just a fancier one... And holy balls, $200K "before you begin adding options"... and how much is the Mercedes SLS AMG? I mean if you can afford a $200K Mustang, surely you must have better taste than that to spend that much money on a Mustang (except for Ron Pratt).

haha sometime you just like that more brutish horsepower feel , i mean dont get me wrong i love finesse and good powerbands ect, but its just different when you get behind the wheel or a rwd 500hp+ supercharged v8 , the whine , the way the chassis feels the knowing you will break the wheels loose with one wrong slip of the right foot

it maybe "just another mustang" but I think it looks pretty cool

I'd rather start with something more like a Boss 302 (~$43K-$50K new, ~400-420 RWHP?) and build it to a reasonable (~500-600 RWHP) power level.

Which brand new cars would you get instead?

something in the lexus LF series, maybe the admittedly fugly nsx. definitely a maserati or a spyker. audi r8 spyder in a heartbeat.

used ferrari or lambo wouldn't be out of the question--although that's not "new".

I deffinitely agree with starting out with a boss 302
theres no way I would spend more then 65k on a mustang and the only reason I say 65k is the new 2013 gt500... 650hp with a warranty is kind of hard to beat

The only LF on Lexus' website is the LFA... $350,000++ and $552 bhp. The LF series are almost all concept cars as far as I can tell.

The ISF is in the power neighborhood (416 bhp) but it costs another $10K over the Boss 302.

NSX? How much will that cost? Acura's site doesn't show anything and only one (unofficial) site claims it will start at like $33K. I'll believe that when I see it. It's not even for sale yet. C'mon...

Maserati? Narrow it down to a car because their website makes looking up pricing painful.

Spyker? I thought this was a typo, but I can't find any pricing at all on the C8's. Edmunds says "Rough ride, plenty of sports cars are faster and cheaper."

Audi R8 Spyder... The cheapest one is $125K.

Can you find a new car in the $40 to $55K range that's better than a Boss 302?

For $65K, I would get a CTS-V... less horsepower but that could easily be changed.

i misunderstood your question. i thought you were pondering what could be had for the 200k price tag that this stupidly priced mustang costs. at the 50-60k range, it's really a choice of what you want in a car--power or comfort. i like the new xk's, but they're out of the range. much easier to find something used in that ballpark--even a used m3 would fit the bill. used xlr-v? sure.

have you driven a stock gt500? they are really torqy and pretty mean. mustangs are nice and honestly, the worst thing about them is the traction. Find another $50-60k car with 650hp. there arent any out there. you get a loaded mustang and your good to go with a warranty. the boss 302 is definitly the best bang for your buck, plus you get the track pack key which is pretty awesome

i think this thread got alittle derailed it was not meant for people to come in and shit all over mustangs cause hey face it alot of us like them. But the 1k hp shelby is a neat car and shelby is pushing the envelope even further now especially after carols death.

Forgive the derail. I'm hoping to be in the market for the cars currently being discussed in the next couple years and want to know what the options are ;)

$55K; 580 hp supercharged 6.2L; Wow.

My only beef with is it that I'm ideologically opposed to buying a GM product.

Super Snake GT500 seen at Cars and Caffiene. The owner said the upgrades cost like $45K and tested around 950 RWHP

It is a COBRA JET, not a jet cobra, just like it was in the 60s and 70s.
