View Full Version : May actually, truly, finally be ready for a dyno tune

My car has been "done" for months now, but I kept finding little issues or things that I wanted to improve before I spend money at the dyno. Well, I think I may actually be done.

The last little hiccup was that I overran my FPR. Well, I am happy to say that the Aeromotive FPSC took care of the problem. What's better than a fuel system that can flow 700lph? One that doesn't do it at idle. :) (Ignore the nasty wiring, that's just temporary)

Another thing that bothered me was the proximity of the front manifold and the alternator and fan wiring, so I made a heatshield:

So, the final product. Just a little wiring cleanup left to do.

For anyone who doesn't know, Jackhammer (Tackhammer on here?) essentially built this car from the ground up and apprenticed me along the way. Couldn't have done it without him.

Should be interesting... it is built to make some pretty serious power, if I've got the guts for it. :)

It's SO clean.

I love the amount of space you have.. I wish my engine bays were that empty. =P

It really is a pleasure to work on. I have a beater 94 TT that is mostly stock and I can barely stand to touch it anymore. Going speed density, moving the fusebox, and using an aftermarket coolant reservoir really open up the bay on the passenger side. Harness tuck and cruise delete make the driver's side look tidy.

I love the mezziere reservoir:

Great looking engine bay, looks like you've done some fine work. Keep an eye on that coupler right next to the manifold though.

If I had to do it all over again I would clock the front turbo down. Oh well. If it's too bad I may need to wrap that part of the manifold.

Originally I didn't have any, but supposedly it is beneficial. I went with simple, short intakes with a single bend each.

Very nice, clean setup you have there. Good luck on the dyno.

Who did your powder coating?

A local guy. Everything was done locally with the exception of the head lift fix by Ray.

So your not going to the Knoxville Dyno?

I may still go just to get a baseline tune, but I don't think I'm going to make big numbers there. We'll see.

Damn! Now thats how you configure an engine compartment! The best part is that Intropy could delete his AC and get even more room!

Well done indeed sir!

Is there a write up on the wire tuck / fuse box relocate?

hows your heatshield working out?

No A/C delete for me, I'm keeping all the creature comforts. ;) Actually my A/C line is custom, if you'll notice it doesn't come across the top, it goes underneath to avoid the heat from the manifold.

There are a lot of different ways you could go with the wiring tuck, so I'm not sure there's a writeup. What I did is to disconnect it at the junction box under the dash and fish it out all the way around the bay, then ran everything like I wanted. It had to be extended / modified in several different places. I could probably do a writeup if I thought about it long enough.

Great so far. I was just a little concerned about the fan wiring and alternator. When I was first learning how to use AEMTuner, I didn't have the driver's fan running, and some of the insulation started to melt. Now I have the driver's fan running almost constantly, and between that and the heat shield I haven't had any problems.

So does this mean I'll have to go get my own video cam charger? No I still haven't went and got it. Hopefully it's still there.

LOL yeah I wouldn't wait on me. Although, I will probably take an engine up there soon.

It's nice to see someone that is actually happy with the end results..so far. :p
Engine bay looks really good.
Just be sure to take vids when you go to the dyno!

So far, definitely. I don't think it can be done any better, more thoroughly, or with any more success. And at less cost than any remotely comparable new car. I have Wayne to thank for that. And I stole all his secrets, which are priceless. http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/neener_neener.gif

It would be awesome if you did a small write-up along with some good pictures of the wiring tuck. I'd even paypal you a few bucks for it....lol. Aside from all, your car looks great. Can't wait to see what kind of numbers you make.

Agreed, a write up would be awesome, regardless of who does it. I'd love to do the wire tuck so if I get around to it any time soon, I should do a write up on it. Sounds like fun!

So in a great stroke of luck, it looks like Ray will be coming to Knoxville to tune my car. :w00t: Holy crap!

I'm looking forward to that but I am a little sick to my belly because my car isn't running. Ray must come back when I get mine running.

OK, one more mod before Ray gets here, on his recommendation:
