Im not even driving my car right now because of a blown clutch line that I dont feel like fixing. I will be doing a rebuild and what not this winter. Does anyone else have the problem of the day you get your paycheck, all your extra money is gone for your 3s? Doesnt it suck? Haha but hey, I still love my car.

Thats where I am at. I have spent probably ~15-17 thousand incl purchase of my VR-4. It still isn't running. I have been stranded 3 states away from home. I have been stranded all over town. I have lived without a car for 3 years of my driving life so far.

What's that?
In all honesty, 90% of the stuff that is wrong with my car, is from how the previous owner worked on it, and treated it. I just haven't had the proper funds to keep up with the car the way it needs to be.

I admit to cracking the piston, although still have no idea how that happened. I also admit to chucking the rod while spinning a bearing. But all of the stuff that has been going wrong in between is what has killed me. And it is probably a good chance that the cracked piston and spun bearing were caused by the other things going wrong from the way this guy had things set up. I don't even want to talk about the ratchet strap I found which looked like it had been used on the transmission for a while as a mount. This is why my tranny mount was messed up.
I wouldn't have bought it if I knew all of this at the time, but I was 18, and though I could take on the world.

For the most part i would say $100-$200 a pay check ends up in my car in one way or another. However since i got it i have mostly babied it. That being said i have driven the crap out of it. About 40k miles since i bought it in mid 08.

At least you guys have a job so you can put money toward fixing the car. I must be blessed that my fwd tt never even broke down once while I had it, that none of my 3 dsms have ever broke down, and that my new vr4 has not broke down.
Well, I shouldn't say blessed because it is because of preventative maintenance. I change the oil all the time and all fluids for that matter, and make sure its tuned well and that anything thats going bad gets fixed. I change oil and plugs before and after I race the car. Even if its only a couple passes on the track or a couple street races. And even without racing I have a hard time of keeping it in more than 1k miles. Im glad rotella T is 10 bucks a gallon.

I am on the ball with oil changes as well. However i hope to be getting a second car here in the next few months to use as my DD and finally give her a rest.
Side note does anyone else use any engine additives when changing oil? I have been using a can of Engine Restore in ever single one of my oil changes since i got the car.

Agree with the family comment. HAHA. Maybe its cause I havent found the right girl.
And blindmist, I know how you feel. My VR4 came from an asian that didnt know/do shit to the car. I know, I know, I didnt check the oil when I bought it, causing a spun bearing which really sucks. But I was just so damn excited about the car, and I had to have it. Now Im glad I have it even if I cant drive it or buy anything else fancy. All I need is my car and the fun of fixing it and driving it.
I do not use additives, I run Rotella T 5-40 though. Dude buy a $500 blazer as a DD. Thats how Im rolling. Shes a pos 93 but it gets me from point a to b. Except the leaky tank. That will be getting fixed right now :D. Once I get off here. ;).

Seriously, I have been walking almost everywhere, even to the parts store. I have gotten a ride home a few times from one employee that works there because he keeps seeing my car broken and he feels sorry for me.

Lol, I can honestly say that while my stealth RT/TT was the coolest car I've ever owned, I don't miss it much after it's been gone for about half a year. Sure I miss the looks, but definitely not what you said above. Plus the parts are so expensive for 3s's anymore that it was taking the fun out of it. It was just time to move on for me to move on, and it's kind of nice to have some money in the bank now.

I chip in for gas and get carpooled to work everyday. Been stranded at my place as I wait for my last part to finally come in the mail.

Hopefully that will be over with by the end of the week. Trust me, I am sick of it. I made the plunge to spend the money to get it running, and running correctly 100% with the full ability to monitor. This bitch better not break.

Both of my current 3S's (along with my past 94VR4) have been ULTRA reliable. The ONLY downtime I can recall is with the Spyder with a shorted wire to ground (to the coil pack) that cost me $800+ and about 10 days....luckily I had a Jeep as a backup then....
I take care of them (and I purchased WISELY) and they take care of me (Stealth - 103K+, Spyder - 105K+)....
Bob.
