View Full Version : Anyone into MAME?

Just thought I'd ask, I hadn't had a mame setup for several years but still had a couple emulators on my comp with a few games, but recently decided to go and build a full on arcade cabinet to put in my game room.
However, looks like the last few years have had a lot of changes to the program, and I'm having difficulty finding games that even work with the current version (0.144.)
Can anyone tell me a good, stable version that have available roms out there? I am only having about a 30% success rate with the games I find. I was thinking maybe dial it back to version .141 and see if that works with most games?

Let me check my Media PC out tomorrow and find out which version I am running. I have a complete machine already built pretty much for this.

Thanks, the last version I ran was like .122 or something, and it ran Street Fighter 2, Galaga, Strider, etc. The version I'm finding out there now, the games don't populate in MameUI after putting them in the roms folder, no idea why.

thread highjack, because someone here might know. Does anyone know where I can find a current working version of MUGEN and content to download for it. For those who don't know, it was a fighting game emulator that let you import your own characters and stages. You could basically have hundreds of characters from different games as long as it was a 2D fighter. Imagine all your favorite fighting games in one. I used to have it on my old desktop, but when the hard drive crashed I lost everything.

Go to mameaddicts.com and PM madmorro, he has a screenshot of his Mugen games as his sig and can probably tell you/give you the files.

I use Mame32 0.72 out of my 1962 Roms, the built in audit reports that 1627 are "good to go" with the Mame that I have and out of 192 sound sample files, 184 are good to go as well.
If I ever played it I have it and then some.

Do you know what the latest game that .72 can play? Can it play Killer Instinct? Mortal Kombat? Does it allow you to run Daphne games?

I bought this kit... NorthCoast Custom Arcades - Your one stop arcade cabinet building and arcade games resource (http://www.mameroom.com/Products_UAII_Kit.asp)
After looking into just how much the wood and materials were going to cost me to build it myself, not to mention the time and mess, buying the cabinet kit seemed the best way to go. Then I got an X-Arcade tankstick for my controller. (I'm building a custom controller as well, but that is on the backburner right now.) Add a tv with power return, and an old computer, and you're good to go.
Here's some pics of mine (no bezel around tv or marquee yet as I can't decide what to go with.) Marquee lights are wired up, as is the coin door and buttons, with two speakers and sub for sound.

The last is one of the games I do have working, Superman. Never was able to beat it in the arcade, cost way too many quarters LOL.

HAHA that is badass. I have not played in over a year, but my last, working version appears to be .91.
Since we are on topic, does anyone have a GOOD version of "The Outfoxies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Outfoxies)" with working audio? I was never able to find a perfect rom. GI Joe, Blood Bros, and Cabal were all pretty addicting shoot-em-ups/shooting galleries.

MKI=good to go
MKII=good to go
MK3=good to go
I do not have KI 1 or two, however they are on the list to choose from, it just can't load what I do not have. If you have them, I can test them. :)
I have Daphne Loader as a separate program, but only Dragon's Liar 1 & 2 and Space Ace.

Thanks man, if MK3 works then KI shouldn't be a problem. I'll start looking for a full set for .72

The .8 version also recognised all my sample files.

I built this a few years ago, never really finished it, but it works just fine.

I'm thinking more along the lines of something like this:

No screen to break your fingers on!

I thought about going that route, but the old games from the 80's and 90's look like crap on an LCD screen. 480i is ideal for playing most arcade games, except ones from say, 2004 and up where high definition became commonplace. But, I have a PS3 to play that kind of stuff.
The tv I got for my cabinet is a 2004/2005 Toshiba with S-Video and Component (I use component) with a resolution of 640 x 480. Looks just like I remembered in the arcades.

Eh, you put in a coin door. That's finished enough in my book lol :)
Did you cut the wood yourself or is that a cabinet kit? (I'm guessing it's a kit since it has the grooves for T-molding.) If not, props to you for routing that out!

Well, you can't have just one arcade game... that's just the one I'd like first. With Golden Tee, Putt Putt Golf, and Silverstrike Bowling.
I know, I was off topic with the MAME theme!

I'm currently downloading a rom set, version 0.143, that was personally checked out by a member on a mame forum who says the games I want all play just fine. Been downloading for almost two days straight, 28Gig and I still have a day or two to go. Ugh.

Finally finished downloading the rom set, and the correct version of MameUI to play them. Happy to say that they are working great! Still need to do a few tweaks here and there, and I might get a different program as a front loader, but if anyone is curious, 0.143 does have a complete working rom set available. I think the next time my friends come over a Street Fighter 2 competition is in order. :)
