Does anybody else fish?
I know, its not real action packed, but since its taking a while to get my car here I've been fishing as much as I used to.

The weather hasn't been cooperating as much as i wish, but looks like ill be going again this week.

Right now I'm exploring Canyon Lake, TX
Trying to get better at Bass fishing.

For my sins, I do international level competitions (both team and individual) in loch style fly fishing. Best results so far, 2010 6th Lexus Individual European Open, 2011 11th Lexus Individual European Open, 2011 11th Anglian Water Airflo Teams International.

Thats awesome man! I only won one tournament ever, it was for catfish.
I didn't know they flyfished in England! Where do you guys do that?

The loch style competitions are held on the major reservoirs around the countries like my home water, Chew Valley Lake then ther is Bewl Water, Grafham Water, Rutland Water, Eyebrook, Pitsford, draycote, Menteith etc.

Good old England is widely regarded as the home of chalstream brown trout fly fishing. People pay stupid money to fish the river test.

I have a friend who is the head river keeper for 8 beats of the Test at Wherwell who sometimes gets me on there :)

Didn't know that! Ive never been fly fishing before, hopefully ill get to go to Alaska and have some fun there. They fly fish the river over here to, but i hear so many mixed results and people pay big bucks to fish on it with a small limit of fish.
Do you wear waders and stand in the middle of the river?

I finally caught something today on the lake, i realize i have no idea what I'm doing. So tomorrow I'm join to the tackle shop buying stuff and hopefully getting some pointers cause this no fun!

For loch style it is all drifting boats broadside with a drogue, like un under water parachute. For trout (unless fishing a lake), grayling, salmon and sea trout or sewin as the welsh call them it is bankside or wading. If bank fishing a large reservoir we also wade then. Normally chest or waist waders.

Alaska? I'm sooo jealous!

Andre, you are ALOT more into fishing than i thought!
And into fast cars, all the people i know used to make faces when they saw my poles and all the bait i got but don't use.

got a new spinning rod today, along with some new bait to try out! Caught a couple small fish yesterday but i want that biggun!
Ill post pics if i catch something decent (13+ inches)

People think it's REALLY strange, on one hand being a speed junkie and on the other hand enjoying the somewhat slower pursuit of fly fishing.

Have you ever fly fished at night? I have 2 season permits on the Towy, Cothi and Gwili in Wales where I fish for salmon and sea trout that the Welsh call sewin. We fly fish at night for the sewin, jeez that's a whole different ball game...but addictive!

You can be wading in the river working down a pool for hours without a touch and lots of strange movements and noises going on around; then without warning you've got this THING trying to rip the rod out of your hand! Talk about an adrenaline rush.

One night I was casting away and heard this fluttering sound. I thought damn, too much line out on the back cast and hooked a leaf off a tree. Let the line land and as I was bringing it in to unhook the 'leaf' there was this commotion going on. I'd only hooked a bat through the wing. Knowing they can carry rabies I wasn't going to handle it and to my amazement I saw this bat chew through the bone of its own wing to get off!

Like I say, night fly fishing is a whole different ball game! If you can cast a fly in daylight, try at night without hooking the bank behind you or the overhanging branches on the opposite bank.

Never did flyfishing at night, there aren't any real good spots around here for that.
People fish the river for trout, but they seem to perform better with spoons and won't really hit flys.

I did do some night fishing on a river and some lakes, getting some big catfish (50 pounds+) they scared me to death because its just hard to see. Last summer a guy took me out frogging and noodling for catfish, that was the scariest thing I've ever done.

Noodling is where you find a recess in the rocks or under a stump, where a catfish COULD be. You stick your hand in there and you feel around till you find the mouth of the catfish and you stick your hand in there and just hold on and pull it out of the hole.
After the second fish the guy told be in the calmest of ways that other things like to hide in those holes too. I was done after that.

Im fishing for Bass right now, but the lake is kicking my ass, its like the fish aren't there....
