I see people posting things for sale on both 3sgto and 3si, does that mean they have two of each to sell?

Oh and ipd you dont have to say anything, I cant see what you post cause u r on my ignore list and for that matter u should be on everybodies ignore list anyways, so why r u still here on this forum?

Is there more to this that I am not "getting"?

I suspect they usually only have one item, but they're in a hurry to sell and would sell it to the first person that puts the cash down - regardless of forum preference. After that, the reasonable thing to do is notify each thread that the item is no longer available.

It's called Advertising!!! The more exposure you get the better chance you have of selling the item at the price you are looking for. No different then people posting items on multiple different forums, Craigslist and eBay all at the same time.

this is not a good thread. what is wrong with getting the most attention possible for an item? if i lived in florida for instance, i would post it on 3si, 3sgto, florida3s, AND criagslist. ebay is a last resort thing for me cause it costs money

The irony of all this was the people that go on 3si to sell stuff, but over here they are like "fuck 3si". During the split the most active place on there was the classifies. Albeit, it is probably still the most active, but now there are actual threads about other things. And those people that wanted 3si to sink and fail, it never will solely because of the classifies.

But if the item is sold exactly at the same time on both forums, you would be obigated to provide two , one to each seller isnt it?

DuTTch
11-08-2011, 10:53 AM
You are falsily advertising on at least one forum if you only have one item and sold it to the other?

Can you tell us the odds of an item selling at the exact same time, down to the second, on separate forums?

No. Not at all.

You're essentially saying that a used car dealership can't advertise on craigslist, autotrader, cars.com, etc at the same time.

I'll help... They do.

DrGonzo

Really it would be at the sellers discretion who would get the item.

Unless the buyer could prove that funds were transferred at the same time for the same item there is no way to prove who paid first. You would basically have to get time-stamps from Paypal and most likely one transaction still would come into their system before the other one due to how Paypal processes transactions across their server clusters.

You would have better luck wining the lottery then have this type of scenario happen.

wouldnt that piss you off and give that seller a bad rating?

Hey Adam, your the educated smart guy, its not impossible is it? Run me some numbers my man!

Been a while since I took statistics, but If the item was for sale for a 5 day period, the odds of 2 people 'calling dibs' or sending payment at the exact same time is ... ((86400 sec/day) * 5 days)^2 .... or... 1/1.86624E11 ... or 5.358E-12 or ... 0.00000000000536 ... or 0.000000000536%

DrGonzo

LOL... No I would be mad at myself for taking to long and not hesitate the next time I wanted something....

Would you give a seller a bad rating for selling something right after you emailed/PM'd them letting them know you had the money in hand ready to buy it? Really the same situation if you think about it.

solution to "selling one thing on multiple sites" would be to accept payments via PM/email only (not posting paypal address in your sale post). that way, you can be sure that no two people will pay at the same time.

So, then I can't offer the parts I have on my website, to customers on here, because they may buy it not using the check-out feature on my website...? Come on Mark, use your noggin

I think that a duckbunny would be uber cute. Anyone have photoshop skills? I don't, but if I did I'd photochop one up.

I don't see the problem in advertising in multiple places... so long as you make clear that it is available for sale in multiple ways (ie, stating that you have a right to end your ebay auction early if the item is purchased locally.) I've advertised something in different places before, and my rule has always been the same. I won't "hold" anything for anyone, first to pay gets it. I have on occasion held an item after being a paid a non refundable deposit, which was clearly stated by me, and giving them a timeframe they have to come back with the rest or they forfeit the money.

Here you go. The closest thing to a duck bunny you will find in real life.

And my favourite quote from Dogma

Disclaimer: 1) a renunciation of any claim to or connection with; 2) disavowal; 3) a statement made to save one's own ass.
Though it'll go without saying ten minutes or so into these proceedings, View Askew would like to state that this film is - from start to finish - a work of comedic fantasy, not to be taken seriously. To insist that any of what follows is incendiary or inflammatory is to miss our intention and pass undue judgment; and passing judgment is reserved for God and God alone (this goes for you film critics too...just kidding).
So please - before you think about hurting someone over this trifle of a film, remember: even God has a sense of humor. Just look at the Platypus.
Thank you and enjoy the show.
P.S. We sincerely apologize to all Platypus enthusiasts out there who are offended by that thoughtless comment about the Platypi. We at View Askew respect the noble Platypus, and it is not our intention to slight these stupid creatures in any way.
Thank you again and enjoy the show.

I'm not sure if you've insulted duck bunnies or the noble Platypi.

Regardless, well played. And I love that quote, too.

Another A+ thread from Duttch. Riddle me this...

What if two people on one site or the other both say they'll take the item at the same time & it's only listed on one site?

Do you honestly think people that advertise their house in the paper, and in a real estate magazine have two houses to sell? I take it your profession isn't logistics or marketing?
