ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers.

me personally, i insist on dry-cell batteries. as far as that goes, i've never heard bad things about optima yellow-top.

I use yellow tops, never been disappointed. Interstate also makes some good batteries, if you're on a tighter budget.

Honestly, EverStart Maxx from WalMart is a good battery. Usually 800 CCA/900-100 CA, and less expensive that batteries with less CCA found at auto parts stores. Have one in the Stealth and just bought one for the Grand Prix on Saturday.

I have the Interstate I-24 in both of mine, and haven't had any problems. Goes for around $85, but shop around! Firestone is running a special on Interstate batteries for $79.99 Car Battery & Starter Repair | Firestone Complete Auto Care (http://www.firestonecompleteautocare.com/repair/carbattery_starter.jsp?s_kwcid=TC-17699-2710705855-e-263130954)

Optima batteries may be expensive, but they are worth it in my opinion. Back in the day I worked at Batteries Plus and I saw first hand how amazing they are. I had a red top optima that was 10 years old in my 69 Dart and it was still going strong when I sold the car

Red tops USED to be worth it. Sometime around 05 or 06 their quality went to shit and they stopped lasting. I killed two red tops. The first I was able to get replaced under warranty. My brother on ther other hand, has 2 red tops, both from around 02 or 03, and both still kicking strong.

It's been a long time since I actually bought that one or worked at Batteries Plus so I didnt know about the drop in quality. Haha mine had a 1999 build date lol

The red top Optima sucks. We get cars in the shop all the time with Optimas and none of them will hold a charge.
I would have to go with Interstate.

Check out the advance auto coupons on retailmenot.com

I just used a $30 off $75 coupon on an everstart silver battery. $72 after tax and core fee (I didn't have a battery to turn in).

Can't beat that!

Considering the majority of batteries in the US are made by Johnson Controls, it really doesn't matter all that much. I have an Interstate in my 3S and a Duralast Gold in my Focus - both made by Johnson Controls (and the motorcraft batter that came out of the Focus was also Johnson Controls). There really isn't that much different so long as you look up the actual manufacturer of the battery you're looking to buy.

I have a small Exide battery I bought from my job. Mounted on the subframe and the car starts every morning. Works for me.

I've had incredible good luck with the mid range autozone batteries. The one in my van is about 10 years old and still cranks great. I dont buy anything else from the zone because of their quality problems.

I love my kinetik battery, I can leave the car sitting forever and it always starts up on the first try.

Depends on what you want...

To just start the car, high performance, longest life, light weight

If you're just trying to get it back on the road, and tight on funds, i'd go with a walmart battery
They're half the price of most and have at least a 1 year warranty
The smallest cheapest one will do, just make sure posts are in right locations

If you have amps, you might want a 800cc +
But you should also have a capacitor

It's funny, I have the cheapest walmart battery you can buy and it's already outlived my optima yellowtop

I have an Optima red top in the Stealth and I don't care for it too much. It's starting to have problems holding a charge it seems or maybe I have a parasitic drain somewhere in my electrical. The 93 VR-4 had a Duralast Gold battery in it. Well worth it in my opinion. I think I have a 3 year free replacement and then another 3 year pro-rated replacement on top of that. The 92 VR-4 has an Odyssey small battery in it. For small spaces it works great and frees up room. I never had any problems.

Capacitors don't help save your battery.

Optima red top for 5 years, finally dies on me...

...I wanted to stick with the AGM style but was leery of the newer Redtops. Found myself at Sears and they are now making their own...

Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more (http://www.sears.com/diehard-automotive-battery-platinum-p-1-group-size-34/p-02850034000P)

...made by same company as Odyssey batteries, and offers 48 month free replacement warranty with 100 month prorated!

I bought a Sears Diehard Platinum to put in the trunk of my VR-4. I got it for the large capacity. When our Ford Ranger battery died, I pulled the Diehard from the back of the 3S where it had been sitting (unconnected) for over 7 months. It cranked the truck like it had never been removed. Good enough for me.

Capacitors don't help save your battery.

not necessarily save it, but will help with the rest of your electrical system

oh and i meant red-top, not yellow-top
apparently i'm not the only one who had issues with those

It doesn't even help the rest of your electrical system. Its actually a bigger drain on your alternator.
