Anybody ever bought these?
3SX Aluminum Defroster Dash Vents - EASY INSTALL!!*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth Parts (http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItemBundle.asp?idProduct=28017)
I did and I wish someone could give me a hint on how to install these and uninstall the OEM vents.

You basically have to break whatever's left of your old vents out. I used channel locks for the most part. Then you slip the fasteners into place under the vinyl, and screw them down.
"Easy" is the wrong word, but I suppose it's easier than removing the dash. Prolly took me a bit over an hour, start to finish, most of it breaking out the old vents.

Gettin' the ends with the screws out is gonna be a bitch, I suppose.

Well, its is "easy" when you consider the work required to pull the dash.

I hope they are not using the same aluminum hardware as what is on the other kits. All my aluminum bolts broke when I installed mine cause you really have to tighten them down good since the vinyl on the dash tends to warp due to the sun and age. Had to replace them all with SS hardware which has been holding up to 2 years now.
If the vinyl around you dash vents is in any way warped or pulling up then those will not work. you would need to pull the dash, re-glue the vinyl back down and then install the new vents. Installing them on top of the warped vinyl is almost impossible and will make it look like total ass!!

:flame:Whoever came up with this shit of "easy install" is very lucky they aren't here right now. I've just spent the last 2 hrs trying to get the ds vent installed and still haven't got it done. Only thing I can figure is they have the hands of a 10 yr. old female violinist. Fuck I'm pissed right now.:flame:

Done a few of them. They are far from easy. I always recommend OEM vents and dash removal. IMO

Alan when yoiu replace your let me know, I have some ideas about how to mount new ones without them cracking, but if you are needing them to clamp the vinyl from lifting my idea will not work.

Yeah the metal ones do a great job of holding the vinyl down from lifting. l also used "Amazing Goop" to glue down what was lifting. Jeff's site has a great write up on fixing it all.

The LCD boost controller/logger install is my winter project.

I put OEM back in like 5 years ago and they still look perfect. The last version has a better design with reinforced areas. If the dash hasn't warped there is nothing to really cause pressure on them either. The key is re-gluing any lifted edges of the vinyl and pinching it down with binder clips until the glue sets. And I'm not afraid to pull the dash once every 8-10 years if necessary :lo5l:

I installed the 3SX 'Easy Install' vents in mine, but while they were replacing my Windshield. ( I know that is cheating)
I've since built a 'Special Tool' for getting in there if they ever have to come out or need tightening.
It's basically a long thin steel screwdriver with the Allen Key taped on to the end of it. Works great, but you have to be patient.
Cheers,
fugly. any vent replacements i put in had better be black.

Yeah, I had a pair of needle-nose vice-grips with the allen wrench in it. :)

i'm happy for you. 3sx's aren't black. unless you are duTTch, why in god's name would you want something silver-colored in there in the first place?

Well, if you have brushed aluminum speaker covers, lower door sills, door sills and silver stitching on your seats it might just match.

touche. although i think it would still clash with the dash vents & trim rings, unless you got those all in brushed aluminum too. i just happen to think that silver-colored stuff doesn't belong on the inside of the car. messes up the feng shui. :suspect:
