View Full Version : The Patch
i've asked for patches to be added to the 3sgto store, but so far--no dice. so i'm going to rectify this by comissioning a run of patches for any interested 3sgto parties. i don't want to make a profit on this. i won't know pricing till the specifics are nailed down. for now, i'm going to say $10 per patch. if they cost less, i'll just donate the proceeds to the NG. if they cost more, i'll provide an updated cost. the only additional cost i'll have to include in this price is whatever alan saddles me with to get this off the ground.
gauging interest only. need to know:
-what kind of 3sgto logo you want (plain or background with cars, etc)
-what size of patch you're looking for
-what shape you want (circle, oval, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, trapazoid, etc)
-what colors you want (standard, white-background, alternate color logo, etc)
-what style you want (borderless, colored border, same color border, multi-border, etc)
-how many you want
p.s.
off hand (based on my wearing of patches for a living) i'd say 4" is good for a round sized. i might be able to get as large as a 3"x9" rectangle or something, but that's QUITE big.
I'd say as accurate a version as can be had of the representation on the header, with those colors (including the white border), a trapazoidal shape, and two sizes, one appropriate for a shirt front, above-the-pocket style, and a larger, back-of-the-garment version - 3" X 9" would be adequate, I think - could be up to 4" X 11".
bump. anyone else want to chime in?

Great idea, IPD. I saw where Alan mentioned this thread in the newsletter. I'm all for it. Personally, I would want a patch similar to the window clings that Alan had made before.
blue, i was originally going to base the design similar to that on the stickers currently in the 3sgto store--but i'm getting the impression that the background on those somewhat detracts from the clarity of the logo...especially at a distance.
i'm also tossing around the idea of getting the logo colors changed; perhaps so that people can get a logo that matches the color of their car. this would require many people for each color though.

Oooh... Great idea! Lots of options, though, and that just winds up being confusing for me. :confused2: :p
I will have to think about the options but I am sure I would order a patch or two! :bigthumb:

ok. gonna try this. let me know what ya'll think. can't go higher rez because of the uber-small size limit on attachments.
now again, this all has to meet the alan stamp of approval (this is HIS site, after all). what i'm thinking about for color-matching is to either change the background behind the logo; change the color of the border; or change the red "GTO". all i have is paint & powerpoint, so changing the color of the logo itself is pretty difficult because the original file isn't a "solid area" of color.
another possibility is distorting the logo to fit the shape of a patch (triangle, for instance)--again, if alan's ok with it.
I like the upper right or dead center, Thadd.
Don't see any reason to change to a circle or triangle.
Also, pocket-patch and back-of-the-jacket sizes would be nice.

Also what is neat about the center one. the individual can chose the boarder color by using that color thread to sew the patch on.

you're not going to get a thick, even border by just stitching a patch on.

both rectangles, but change the border to red in place of blue...
ok. based on feedback thus far, this is what i've got:

notes:
-.org moved left so it lines up with crossbar-tip better
-shrunk border to fit logo with minimal background
-increased border size to 10 point
let me know what you guys think. note that the black border is eliminated in this design.

I like it, I rather not have a boarder but I like it.

no border will give a ratty-edge appearance...but we could do black-border if everyone agrees on it.

These (http://1stopsquare.com/marvy/fabric/marker.html)
The I can have black, you can have purple. Would need to make sure the thread is cotton.

I liked the sample you have there. Think that looks good with red border

You have a red 3s of course it looks great.
the logo has red in it, steve. you can't get around that. at least with a red border, it matches.
and no, i'm not convinced that a "dye pen" will actually look good on these. worse, it could potentially bleed.
...since no one seems to be adding anything new on input, let me ask what size you guys want. aspect ratio could be fudged a bit without altering the look TOO much. so what length should it be?

Bleed into black?

Go with the last one you posted. Adding shape detracts from the trademark, as the logo itself is just lettering. Most patches worn by people that have a reason, have a border on them. The red outline is a good way to highlight, and draw the boundaries of the logo. I threw together a rough subdued version, I didn't have time to change the white to grey, it took a minute to replace all the color with an OD because there were highlights all over it.

looks like a morale patch for being deployed to the sandbox. lol!
blanked out though...it looks decent. could be modified to accept other colors in the logo--if the demand is there (people like steve, who don't want red).

I definitely like the last one you posted and yeah I like the border also. Black might look better on a jacket though.

Love it! Somewhere in the in the 11/4"x3" range for front, and 4"x10" for back?
i'm gonna look for one size at a time here. if we start offering a bunch of different sizes, it's going to complicate things just as much as offering a bunch of different colors.

Make a size to fit on ACU tabs with a velcro backing and you'll have a winner for sure. You used the term morale patch, so you know how well those sell. :) I would have wore one for pics on my tour. We had guys that were Ninja, "that guy" and infidel certified. ;)
i was thinking more like DFDU pen-pocket velcro tab. most guys i know put stuff like their college teams on there though.
p.s.
i still have a 3si static-cling on the side of my DC's. been waiting for a good 3sgto static-cling to replace it with. *HINT HINT ALAN*
