Anyone out there near this location? My parents are en route to Florida and their Lexus broke down. They limped it to a dealer today and they say it needs 3 cats...at the cost of 5 grand. Yeah, I know...
Wondering if any of you are near this area that could possibly steer them towards an exhaust shop that would "work with them". By work with them, I mean someone that would be willing to weld in 3 universal cats, or simply fab up a whole new exhaust. I'm about to tell my Dad to drop the whole effin exhaust, roll out, and worry about it when they get to Florida.
The worst part of this is they are moving!! They are towing a car, and their GX470 is stuffed, including things strapped to the roof. They are supposed to be at their closing for their new hous in Orlando, tomorrow. Not good.
It's an 04 Lexus GX470, with 97k. They had it fully serviced and inspected, THIS WEEK, before they left yesterday. It was given a perfect bill of health. Again, yeah I know...
If anyone can help, let me know. Thanks! :)

That's a little too far away for my off hand knowledge, but I would suggest looking for a truck shop. They could weld in the new cats or fab up the entire system, which is just about all that goes around here. Most truck catbacks are around $200 with muffler & all, so financially it's your best bet.
If they can limp it to Savannah:

Damn, Jeremy. Honestly, if it is just 3 cats at worst scenario find a local shop that will weld in 3 straight pipes (if they are willing to deal a touch outside the law) or just have them rip em' out for the time being (assuming they have tools). I know it's shitty and not a permanent fix but as long as it gets them to Florida.

find a toyota dealer? might be cheaper. Any exhaust shop should be able to weld on some cats. Unless it's one of those stupid toyota cats that's basically part of the manifold. Some of those there is no way to weld on a universal without also fabing manifolds etc. Maybe just remove and gut them till they hit their final destination.

That quote was from a Toyota dealer.
The full quote was $5,001.xx I called my Dad last night and told him to get up early and tell them not to touch his truck, and to take it to a local exhaust shop. He did just that. This dealer told him he was responsible for a $500 restocking fee of parts, to which he told them absolutely not. They argued for a while, and in the end my Dad had to call the cops to get his vehicle, as they were illegally holding it. He ended up paying them $80 for running the diagnostic. Suck it, dealer!
Now, they have a Midas doing the work for them. But, they can't get the parts til tomorrow. And they were supposed to close on their house tihis morning! So, they've rented a U-Haul, having to unload everything from the Lex and pack it into the U-Haul and haul ass to FL. Then when the Lex is fixed, drive back up to Savannah, GA and pick it up.
Total disaster!
