I am looking at getting some new brake pads and I was wondering what you guys Recommend front, rear, and also thought about doing e-brake boots.

I am also looking at changing the fluid in the differential, transfer case and transmission I am going to use redline and I want to make sure I have this correct:

3QT MT-85 for transmission
1QT shockproof heavy for transfer
2QT 75W90 for differential

now what's the difference between GL-4 and GL-5 for that because all I am finding is GL-5 and I found synthetic and synthetic NS (non-slip).

I know you need a specific GL-something for the transmission (think GL-4 but not sure). Most people that use Redline is the trans use a mix of MT-90 and MTL I think.

As far as pads, what will you be using the car for, how much are you looking to spend, and what year is your car?

Its a 92 TT and its a my daily so something cheaper probably.

Do not use GL-5, GL-5 gear oil will eat your synchronizers in the transmission. MT-85 is GL-4.

Since it's your DD and you're not going to track it just buy some ceramics or whatever from Autozone or Advance.

Thanks guys. is there any pros and cons to using shockproof heavy in the differential and transfer?

Pros: Better protection for the gears
Cons: Smells even worse than normal gear oil

:p

Damn I hate the smell of gear oil but oh well so then in that case I only need 3QTs shockproof heavy and 3QTs mt-85 thanks guys

Here are my thoughts.

I've tried:
Syncromesh
Royal purple
Redline mtl
Diaqueen

Syncromesh shifted the best of course. I stripped all of the teeth off my 2nd gear outer syncro while drag racing with it. Could have just been lucky though.

No problems at all with the royal purple syncromax, but it is super thin, so I was too worried to keep running it. I tried their 90 weight and it was almost unshiftable when cold.

Redline was very good cold or hot.
I heard diaqueen would be less notchy, but it is not.

I'm going back to mtl. It is more available and feels slightly better imo.

Heavyweight shockproof is great, but leaks from the breather on the transfercase. I changed to redline 75w 90 and no more leaks. Maybe shockproof is better, but not if it leaks on the ground.

I know there are designs out there to combat this, but just changing gear oil fixed it for me. Not worth the trouble.

I used MTL but would get MT-85 now that it is readily available. I have 75W90 in both T case and Diff with no issues.

Probably beating a dead horse here since you seem to have had the question answered already but I have the HW Shockproof in my tcase and don't have any problems. Also, it's nice having MT-85 available now rather than having to mix 90 and 80...man I'm lazy :P. I have 75W90 in my diff and haven't had problems there either. Just make sure you use the correct amounts of each.
