This weekend has been really awesome yet really awful. Friday night we all got wasted and my girlfriend drove us all home (she doesn't drink)... my buddies in the back decide it would be a good idea to try and pass a doughnut over the roof of the car to eachother, so the lights behind us just happen to be a cop and my girlfriend gets pulled over. He sees that the inspection has expired and tickets her for it.
So the issue is that there is a crack in the windshield about the size of a dime, and we have to get it fixed before we can get it inspected.
Fast forward to last night. Ironic that we were worried about the front windshield crack... we kayak. So all the kayaks are tied down to the Corolla. At my buddies house, my girlfriend is grabbing something from the trunk. When she goes to close the trunk, the metal buckle from the kayak tie down gets lodged in between the rear glass and trunk lid.... SMASH! The entire rear window just shatters. FML.
Anyone know how much I should expect it to cost to replace the rear glass?:p

Probably easier to replace the hatch.

^Are Corollas hatchbacks? The way I am reading it, his girlfriend broke the window out of the Corolla, but I have been known to fail at reading.
If it is the Corolla, you could probably do it yourself if you found a replacement window. I would look at local junk yards, it could probably be on the cheap. It probably wouldn't cost too much if you had a shop do it, Corollas are popular, so it shouldn't be hard to get a replacement.
wow. and here i thought the shittiest thing that happened this weekend was team USA losing to japan.

In NY you can pass inspection with a crack/chip in the windshield as long as it's not longer than 6" and through the path of the wiper blades.

Yep. No hatch.

Nice info... except it's in the path of the passenger blade:p
$300 for the rear it's going to be. I'm less than happy about the misfortune. Why do things always have to happen?

But not longer than 6", right? It has to be both over 6" AND in the path of a wiper.

lol, the rear windshield is the part that I'm pissed about... the ticket is just icing on the cake I suppose.
