Green Lantern the movie

I finally got to see the movie yesterday. If you are a green lantern fan you will love this movie.

Its not perfect. Their are flaws and it suffers from the too many villains syndrome but its good. The effects look great. IMO Ryan Reynolds does a very believable job with the Hal Jordan character. He starts the transition slowly from the brash reckless test pilot to the Hero he will become. To me it's a much more believable transition that the one from the recent Thor movie. As I mentioned its not a prefect movie. I think a few changes could have taken it from good to great. The voice over at the beginning and the introduction to Parallax were nice but I don't think they were needed. I think they should have been removed and start the movie with Hal's first scene. Most of the information in the beginning is covered again later its really not needed. I would also liked to see more of the time spend on Oa training. It just seemed too short. The scene switch from Oa back to earth seemed clumsy. It just did not make since to me that he would leave with the ring at that point when he did not feel qualified. Some reason for that should have been given. I enjoyed the rest of the movie. I think it flowed pretty well. I would have liked to see more ring based effects at the end but I am happy with it.

I really hope it does well enough so that we get a #2.

I can't wait for the DVD.

At the end of the movie, I was not that impressed, but I believe they set the foundation for a good second movie. This is one case where I believe the sequel would be much better than the first.

Not sure if I can compare the two. While First Class is an origin movie its working in the framework Bryan Singer setup in X1 and X2. (IMO its ignoring X3)

I think Thor is a better comparison. At that level I think its a better movie. I had issues with the speed of character development of Thor. I think it happened too fast without solid motivation for the change.

I think looney tune is a bit harsh. A cartoon with some live actors in it I can buy.

They did make some mistakes and the movie will not be for everyone.

MY biggest beef is the way they started. Start with Hal not the voice over and CGI....

Am still on the fence about seeing it. I loved my comics as a kid and have enjoyed several of the movies made from the variety I used to read from.....just not sure about this one. Thanks for all the input, Alan.

I think this will be a case where I wait to buy it on Bluray when it comes out and it's $20 on sale. From what I've seen in previews and heard from reviews, I'm going to chalk it up to another "visual effect" movie, like Tron Legacy.

for once, i'm inclined to agree; although thomas jane's punisher was admittedly quite good.

i simply think that there's some factors which can make or break a movie. leading actor & director are two biggies. i liked the direction of the new batman movies--but the lead sucked; pretty much the opposite of hulk 2003.

the extent of christian bale's acting ability extends to yelling in a gruff voice. this places his "acting ability" in the same vein as david carradine and christopher walken--both of whom are less painful to watch. for instance, when you see walken on screen, he isn't so much acting as he is "doing his own thing". now granted, a lot of people like it (hence why walken has an extensive career). but it's still not acting. bale does the same thing...only in his own idiom. if you enjoy it, great; but it's not acting.

I think Bale is a decent enough actor - gave a pretty good performance in The Machinist and American Psycho way back. I liked his Batman movies because Liam Neeson in the first one and Keith Ledger in the 2nd were pretty good villains.

I'm pretty sure the comic book movie roller coaster is dying down. Thor was pretty stupid, so was Dare Devil, Spiderman 3 and some of the others mentioned, like the Hulk (Erik Bana). I can wait for Lantern on Netflix.

i think eric bana is a very competent actor. i thought he did a stellar job in troy. the time traveller's wife was also a very well done movie. i can't blame bana for hulk (2003). hell, the movie had jennifer connelly in it, for crying out loud--and she's an amazing actress. ang lee is what ruined that movie--not the actors.

I don't think so... A reboot of Superman is in the works, with a REAL superpowered villain instead of the usual Lex Luthor crap. There's also the Avengers coming out, Captain America, a third Batman film, Ironman 3, etc. I'm excited about an upcoming Deadpool movie, also featuring Ryan Reynolds.

To those who have seen both Thor and Green Lantern:

Will it be ok to wait for the DVD, or will the lack of movie theater sound and picture take everything away from the movies?

I want to see them both, but if they will only be good in theaters (like Avatar), I'll make sure to do that.

We have that too but the DVD's arte normally out by the time movies hit them.

I like the early Saturday show. I can go while my wife it at work(great for movies she does not want to see), its reasonably priced, not packed and in a nice theatre.

Ours tends to get the newer movies about two to three weeks after they've been out. That's a lot earlier than is typical though.
