Is it LEDs that light these up? And how are they wired in?

Yes there is an LED strip connected to the courtesy light that's near your feet. Here is a How-to on the way I did it:http://www.3sgto.org/f20/my-custom-door-sills-3848.html

There are other suggestions on alternative ways of lighting it, on the thread also. Those that saw it at the NG liked the way mine turned out.

I'm afraid not. What you see is what I got. If I sold all the ones I have I could afford another "run" of a different type. :(

Instead of LEDs have you considered the use of electro luminescent panels? They are paper thin and light extremely evenly, they are also available in several colors. Might be worth considering so you aren't forced to make permanent modifications to parts on the car

Interested, but have you come up with a way to bypass having to permanently modify the car? I don't want to cut into the sill.
