Hello, so hears what's going on. I have a 95 3000gt SL. My tranny went on me so I ordered a "newer" one. Its out of a 99 3000gt SL, every was working out an tell I went to put my axles back in and they didn't fit!
I'v been trying to order some axles to fit it (for the 99) but part of the V.I.N number on the tranny is scratched off and I can't mae it out....
So far what iv hear is they made multiple axles for this year.
If anyone has any info on these trannys that would help me out, its my daily driver and its killing me watching it collect dust :(

stealthee
07-11-2011, 06:36 PM
You're doing it wrong. The axles are the same for the ATX from 91-92 and 93-99.

I'm not sure what ATX means but I'm going to guess,,,, its not auto its a 5 speed

stealthee
07-12-2011, 05:58 AM
When you said the tranny went, I assumed you had an ATX

ATX = automatic transaxle
MTX = manual transaxle

Either way the same thing is true. All automatic axles are the same from 91-92 and 93-99. All manua axles are the same 91-92 and 93-99.

Hi!
I just received a 91 Stealth RT TT that my brother doesn't use anymore, and will be my new project car, so Im here to learn as much as I can about these cars
My plans are to restore it to like-new condition and use it as a track day car eventually, i have some road course experience on my daily driver, a 2010 ford focus RS, but i would like to make the stealth a more serious track-car. I have been browsing on the 3si site for awhile but i kept reading everywhere that this site is better and things like that.

Now I am trying to get another one and restart my project. I am currently deployed but cannot wait to come back home and be able to drive real cars on real roads. Thank you for your acceptance and I look forward to posting pictures of last 3kgt and current at home projects.

Hello from Kansas City, Missouri/USA. I currently own a showroom condition (OEM/stock), low miles (7,400 one owner), 1998 MITSUBISHI 3000GT VR-4 in Glacier Pearl White metallic. Before that I had a Firestorm Red 1992 DODGE Stealth R/T Twin Turbo & a 1990 Black EAGLE Talon TSI-AWD. Once you've tasted All Wheel Drive, there's no turning back. I hope to post a few photos of this sweet machine & I'm looking forward to seeing your rides, share some experiences & pick up some tips along the way.

Thanks, Em... it looks like Alan did a fine job putting this all together. Good to see you too. Had a chat with Hans in chat the other night.

Decisions... decisions! Do I modify a stock '98 VR-4 or leave well e'nuff, alone? Once I get started, there's no turning back. Someone mentioned the 30% rule: to allocate an additional 30% in funding for speed equipment & labor beyond initial estimates. A guy or gal could drop a lot of dough on one of these machines getting it just right. I was juggling a few figures in my head after considering how far I wanted to take this & realized that my initial estimate of $16K might be on the marginal side. I suppose that the sky is the limit.

It's e'nuff to drive you nuts. I've got a pristine specimen that's been 100% reliable & pretty darn quick. Problem is that I'm kind of a Dagwood Bumstead when it comes to working on cars. I can handle the basics, but I really don't have the skillset or tools to logistically support my addiction to performance. My comfort level would be increased if GZP were a local business where I could tap your resources from time to time.

So, I'm trying to decide whether or not I'm going to heavily mod my VR-4 OR just leave it stock. If I keep it all factory simple I can live with that. Sometimes, I wonder if I might be better off selling my car outright & putting the money toward a NISSAN GT-R. That Japanese supercar would have all the performance I could want, be reliable & still be under warranty. Of course, $92K MSRP is pretty steep for the price of admission, but there's something reassuring about being able to have it serviced at any NISSAN dealership/service department. One thing is for sure, I do like the aesthetics of the VR-4 over the GT-R. I realize that I won't get anywhere near what my car is worth on a trade so I would have to find a certain buyer specifically wanting the virtual equivalent of a brand new, unmolested '98 VR-4 & is willing to pay a bit more than book to obtain it.

7400, one-owner, miles? I wouldn't modify that. That's garage art.

If you wanted a heavily modified 3/S, I would pick up a 2nd one and go nuts with it. A decent used VR-4 goes pretty cheap these days, even 2nd gens.

In any event...welcome aboard! :)

Jeremy

07-26-2011, 02:51 PM
Thanks, Jeremy! Yeah... garage art or safe queen pretty much nails it. When I owned a '92 STEALTH R/T Twin Turbo, I put a LOT of miles on it & kept it for 6 years. Having this VR-4 for 13 years is unprecedented for me at least. If I need to run errands, I just hop in the HONDA Civic & accumulate the customary door dings & such that go with the territory. The VR-4 never sees snow & very rarely, rain. The paint remains unfaded & flawless. I treat the leather seats with Berman's Leather Lotion twice/year; they're soft & supple & show no signs of wear. The interior doesn't require a pine tree air freshener or FebrezeŽ to mask fermenting cheeseburgers, spilled soft drinks or nicotine; it still has that wonderful "new car smell". I suppose that Barrett-Jackson or Mecum Auctions might be the answer the next time they're in town... but that's a ways off. My wife needs a new car & I'm wanting to get her an EVO-X to replace the Civic & that GT-R is mighty tempting. This is going to get expensive PDQ no matter what I do.

Emilie@GZP
07-26-2011, 06:17 PM
I can tell you now, you won't get what it's worth through Barrett Jackson or the like. You are best off listing it up for sale online, at a price you want, and sit and wait. It will take a while, but eventually you'll get some bites from serious buyers.

Yeah, that Buyer/Seller commission/fee thing is a PITA. The auction houses clean up; it's a win/win for them. I'd have to go with a high reserve. If I do part with it, I'd like to offer it to a friend or someone else who could really appreciate it. I sold my 1978 Red Trans-Am to a medical student many years ago in mint condition. He had it for a few years & sold it to his brother. It's still going strong & looks gorgeous. It was fully loaded with paint to rival a FERRARI (no joke), had the WS-6 handling package with offset mags & TA 6.6 engine, not the OLDS 403. Sold the 1979 Metallic Blue Trans-Am to another guy in perfect shape. It was a TA 6.6 w/functional shaker hood scoop, 4 speed HURST, louver kit, driving lights, graphics, custom exhaust, headlight covers, WS-6 & 4 wheel disk brakes. I saw it again 3 months later with the nose smashed in, front spoiler broken off, one driving light dangling from a wire & a red door on the passenger side of a blue car. It looked like it never had a bath & was driven in & out of ditches. OK, I'm starting to ramble. My VR-4 has been an exceptional piece of engineering & needs a good home. Subconsciously, I want to keep it somehow & still have a GT-R, but I just don't have the room & I do not want to store it outside for 4 seasons. No doubt, I want too much for it, but I feel that a perfect car should bring a few extra quatloos.

Hello I am Highly enthusiastic about the 3s. I am not new to the platform (2007 was first one ) and I love working on cars in general, Although Working on a 6g72tt makes working on most cars seem easy for some reason. Every time I work on a Toyota or Ford I marvel at the space in the engine bay and simplicity of the intake. I am here to talk and discuss projects but I am not here to buy or sell due to previous forums drama which I just want to avoid entirely. p.s. It's common among local unions. There's an electrical workers union near me, where foreign vehicles are not even allowed on the lot, period.

if it passes carfax, and you DON'T buy it, bitchslap yourself. 57 '96 tt's were ever made--and they are probably the most coveted 3/s's next to spyders. especially because of the 96 spoiler.

i guarantee that if you DON'T buy it, if you put the info on here--it will be sold inside of a week.

Hey guys and gals,

My name's George and I live in Tauranga, New Zealand. Currently driving and modifying a '95 VR-4 GTO. Got big plans for the car and it's going to look really amazing when finished. For now though, it's a mix of colours and rolling on snow tyres because I have nothing else after crashing the car in April last year. Determined not to let that be the end of such an outstanding vehicle, I've spent more money than I should have in the effort to restore her to her former glory. But I think it's worth it, especially every time I put the pedal to the floor. It just plain makes me smile. I've definitely caught the GTO bug!

Good old Alan. He's been one of the most outstanding members of all the message boards relating to the 3000GT/Stealth.

My names Derrick. Im from Indiana.
I own a Pearl White 91 Mitsubishi VR-4. The car has been a big love in my life and I like to make custom modifications
from scratch. Ive polished all my intake internals, aligned them for better flow and rebuilt the transmission by myself.
Im more of a bodyman than a mechanic though. I have done away with my snake eyes, added paneling in the holes,
customized my headlights to only open so high, and have a full LED conversion inside the car along with some of the
rare MidnightHaze guage faces. LEDs will one day be on the outside of the car along a few custom body parts.
I have my original rims painted and polished on the car along with some Eibach springs. Borla exhuast, Megan downpipe,
Blitz EBC, AA injection, cold air intake, and a knock sensor. Car is still under the knife however and hasnt been ran for
3 years or so now. Im just taking my time on it while studying and working on other things. These cars arent cheap to
run and it takes dedication to keep one on the road. I have no kids or anything so I can afford to take my time.

More power to the 3/S. These cars are made to be loved~

The UK version

As a new user to this forum their are a few things you should know to make your time here easier.

Post Grammar
While a majority of the forum's user base is located in the US a large portion of our community is not. These members may or may not speak English as their first language. These people may have the answers to your questions. Because of these factors please do your best use proper English when posting. While using slang and internet slang may make is faster to post it will reduce your chances of getting your question answered.

Basic Automotive Knowledge
This is an enthusiast forum before you start asking how to modify your 3S you should have a working basic knowledge of auto mechanics. If you ask something basic like "Whats oil pressure?" or "How do I change my oil?" expect a less then pleasant response. If your lacking basic knowledge try some sites like HowStuffWorks "Auto" (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/)

Stickies and Announcements
At the top of each forum you will find informational posts and announcements. Make sure to read these as they will contain information you need to read. Failure to read these topics could result in a suspension for breaking a rule or public ridicule.

Rules
The forum rules are enforced strictly and without warning. Read the rules before posting. The Forum Rules (http://www.3sgto.org/rules.php)(The rules as posted are just guidelines and are not finalized yet.)

Signatures, Avatars and Private Messaging
These features are not enabled until you have been here for a while.

Selling via the Classifieds sections
YOu can find the "classifieds" but clicking the "Sales/Sponsor" button on the menu bar. Their are stickies and announcements in the classifieds section explaining what you will need to do to sell here.

Forum colors
While the default color scheme is Dark it is not your only option. Their is a light style as well. You can change your personal default in the user setting (http://www.3sgto.org/profile.php?do=editoptions). You can also change them on the fly via the drop down in the lower left corner of every page.

Administrators and Moderators.
A who's who of the important people can be found in the "Forum Leaders" link that can be found on the main forums page. A simple way to identify A member of the moderation team is the color of their name. RED is for Admins and Forum moderators Green is for Sectional moderators.

Its a good idea to pay attention to these people ignoring them can be bad for you.

Site Supporters
While 3SGTO.org does have the option for you to become a paid Site Supporter. We do not require that you pay to use the site. If you enjoy the site and want to help support it, its is $10 per year. Their are links for becoming a site supporter in your settings pages.

In closing
Please review these resources then reply to this thread and tell us about yourself. Within about 15 minutes after you've posted the rest of the forum will be open to you.

Names Ryan, I live in Northwest Indiana. I have always wanted a 3s. A couple years ago I purchased my first 1993 3000gt. I love it. Within the first month of me buying the car the timing jumped. I dont know how but it was a miracle that my valves were still good.

Hi,
I am not an owner, but I am considering one that I have found used. Is there anything specific I need to look for on these cars. There is a link below, but I will give the basics. It is a 1991 3000GT VR4 with just under 100,000 miles. It looks completely stock, which is encouraging to me. And for a 20 year old car to only have 98,000, it seems like it was probably well cared for. What I need is any advice you can give me on the trouble spots to look for, the big maintenance items that should have been, or will need to be done. Whatever advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Cars for Sale: 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 in St. Charles, MO 63303: Hatchback Details - 308315779 - AutoTrader.com (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=308315779&dealer_id=57756189&car_year=1991&systime=&doors=&search_lang=en&only_photo=1&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&search_type=both&distance=100&min_price=&rdm=1319119781575&drive=&marketZipError=false&advanced=y&fuel=&keywords_display=&sownerid=58182363&lastBeginningStartYear=1981&end_year=2012&showZipError=y&certified=&engine=&dma=ST_LOUIS_SO&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&only_price=1&body_code=0&isFlashPlugin=true&transmission=Manual&default_sort=priceASC&max_mileage=&color=&address=63017&sort_type=priceASC&max_price=9000&make=&seller_type=b&num_records=100&cardist=10&standard=false)

Thanks,
Josh

Bought me a 1991 GTO and love it. Wanted to be part of something bigger and then found 3sgto.org. Grand! Looking forward to using the site as I discover wonderful things about the most awesome car I have owned so far (only passed my test a few years ago)
Thank You!

ALSO i used to be a registered member on 3si.org but do not remember my username/password......LONG story short. i joined this forum because i heard it was better then 3si and i have a really nice 94 vr4 complete that i figured i could hook some members up with great deals on some parts!! thanks

Hey everyone, new to the forum.

Name is Nick and from the Pittsburgh, PA area. Looking to get some insight on the 3000GT VR-4 as I'm desperately searching for the one for me. I have a few in the area I'm looking at but, unsure what to look for during inspection.

I wanted this car since I was 19 (4 years ago). Ended up getting a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 which I still have but, I still want to be an owner of a 3000GT.

Ok, I guess I deserved to be ignored :-) I never read that very last line about replying to this thread so I could post and view. tsk tsk. If stupid can actually be apologised for; my apologies!

I decided to follow you from the 3si site where I have been a member since 2009. I have a 94 Stealth AWD TT which I think I would give my life for and may already have. I will be delaying my target retirement date to year 2100 to pay off the cost of essentials required to make my already neck snappingly fast stock TT go even faster and look even better.
I live and work in the energy sector in Grande Prairie, Northern Alberta, Canada but I moved up North on Jan 1st, 2000 from the Okanagan Valley (God's country) in British Columbia where I will return as soon as I possibly can! The only other place better than the Okanagan is Hawaii! That's me in a nutshell. Nothing too exciting, except for my Stealth :-))
