Thanks tho.!!! Hello everyone glad to find a site so use full like this one.
Ok I just got a 92 vr4 with 132k miles for 2500 about 2 months ago and I have lots of questions
Car came turbo timer and everything else is stock. Car was running good when I got it
But now it stalls when I press the gas and it feels like lost some power this gets nasty when car its
Cold but when it warms up drives good with some stalling when I press the gas still.
Ive done tps, spark plugs, spark cables, mafs, im thinking turbo timer or timing belt idk I wanna get some tips on where to start upgrading too. Hope to hear from you guys.

I'm Trei, from Florida, just picked up a bone stock 91 VR4 with 144k that runs like a champ, no smoking and revs very fast. It needs a driver's door panel and dash (sun burnt). The ECS blinks. I'll take it to mitsubishi to get the codes, my shop has all digital multimeters and its frustrating to read blips of power type codes off them.

you can post vids wherever is applicable. we don't need a kills section: winning is implied. what we need is a "punked" section for people who became someone's bitch after barking up the wrong tree.

Name is Robert, most of my buddies call me Tank. Been a DSM owner for years, 95 Eclipse GST(Sold), 91 Talon TSi AWD(Wrecked Rally x-ing, 91 Talon TSi FWD (Quick Fix and Flip), 95 Eclipse GST with 97 Talon Conversion (Traded), 93 Talon TSi AWD Automatic (Current). Before that I was into turboed Saturns. Just picked up a 96 VR-4 6 speed that needs headwork in trade for my FC N/A RX7.

Current DSM Daily Driven. 16g/FMIC/AEM UEGO/Boost Gauge/MBC/ Custom Built 4g63, 2g Head with 2g Intake, evo IX valve train, Evo IX Rods/Pistons, Knife Edged Crank, ARP Rod/Head Bolts, B-Shaft Delete, ACL Trimetal Main/Rod Bearings. 450cc (Manual Trans) Injectors, Manual Trans Ecu, Manual Trans FPR, 190 Whinebro with a rewire, the Usual Bolt-ons.

Probably thinking I got a sweet deal, but the VR4 needs head work. Its got bent valves on 2 cylinders, and it keeps throwing the timing belt due to having the head built and idiot. I've known the owner since 3rd grade, and hes had the car 7 years, ran great for 6 of them. Started throwing the timing belt every couple thousand. Lucky SOB has managed to not drop a valve yet. Just bent a few. I am getting some SL heads as well, going to rebuild them. Complete the 120k service, and drop the new heads on with some ARPs and fel-pro headgaskets.

I did, but that was so long ago that I have no clue what it even was. Unless it was Just "Tank". I got out of Saturns about 6-7 years ago now. Was looking for a Redline, found a GST for a much better price.

Here was my car, never got any other exterior mods other than a Nightshaded Tails / Black Badge Combo.

Military, so I have moved a lot. Current Location is Huntsville Alabama.

No sorry. Back when I was on the sphere people with body kits and such got flamed into near oblivion. IMO its your car, and as long its not riced to hell (primer or unpainted kit, giant aluminum wing, mismatched wheels etc) I could care less. Some say a lot of appearance mods are impractical, and a waste of money, but my current talon Isn't perfectly mannered on the street, and my last AWD was horrible on the street, got about 12 mpg, and would not idle on cold days.

Looks good, not a huge fan of the hood, or color. But different strokes for different folks.

Wing looks really nice, coming from a guy that only every like 2 wings in his entire life, both of which on talons. (1st Gen 5 piece, 2nd Gen Boomerang).

Main people I remember are JegsterSL2 and Codytheoutlaw. And some guy with a picture of jesus holding a turbo.

02-09-2013, 10:12 PM

I hope you have the proper income to maintain your car properly, a VR4 is not what I would recommend to a 16 year old as his DD car.

Yeah, I plan on getting something when I can scrape up the money for a DD. I work minimum wage and it took my whole life savings to get one of these. Haha.

and the first dozen posts you've made are about modifications/upgrades to your car--this isn't the right way to get started with this platform. if you spend nothing on your car for a year & save the money....THAT would be a good start. at minimum-wage, you don't have the capital saved to handle major issues with your car--should they arise.

Hi guys, I'm having minor problems with my car. The car is starting to bog and the oil/coolant is dripping from under the turbo. The turbo isn't lagging at all. what is wrong with the car? I also encounter a problem with this loud knock when I down shift also and it's not coming from the engine.

Make a thread describing your issues.

My guess on the knock on downshift is either the motor mounts being shot, or the driveshaft carrier bearing.

Well this is the most annoying forum registration I've ever had to deal with. Guess I should stick with 3Si :shake2:

Anyways, I bought my 3000GT back in 2006. I bought soclose3kgt's SL, some of you may remember who that is. Met a lot of great people with that car, including Ray, Jay, and a few others.

sold it and built a monster 450awhp pump gas 2g DSM, 2.3L stroker, TRE trans, etc.

After that built the probably the most well known SVT Contour out there, google image search svt contour and you'll see it.

Currently own a Honda S2000 and loving every second of it. However now that I've graduated and have a good job, I'm looking for a mint 1999 VR4. Looking forward to see how this forum compares to 3Si.

Why? because it has advertising and is owned by IB?

The registration process is the same on 3si. Its serves three functions.
1) Keep some spammers out.
2) The ones that get in have to make their first post in a highly monitored thread so we can kill them fast.
3) It makes sure new users have a basic idea how stuff works here. (if you've been using forums a while most of it not new).

the biggest problem i have with 3sdie is the ownership by AF. the entire split in the community was perpetrated by AF's reaction to alan's safety protocol of disabling ads on 3sdie--when one of them was demonstrated to be malware. rather than complimenting alan on preventing more users from potentially having their pc's infected, AF chose to chastise him for taking down the ads; ads that AF was remiss to check for malware in the first place.

there is much more history than that to it, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back. AF does NOT care about the community, and never has. on 3sgto, the site is ran by an owner. better yet, there's no AF-minded censorship of other 3s forum domains just because someone is butthurt and paranoid that they're going to lose all their membership base due to AF's asshatted tomfoolery.

still shitty, I just wish the community wasn't split, especially considering it's size and how few 3S's were made to begin with.

My name is Jeff. I am a 22 year old electrical engineer and I live just North of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I purchased my 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 last August and I am the second owner. It is almost completely bone stock at this point. I have purchased and put in a Borla cat-back exhaust system out of necessity as the old stock system had some rust issues. I am not sure what else I plan to do in the near future but my next purchase may be a new air intake.

I am here to meet people, learn about the cars, and hopefully make friends!

Hi my name is Danny, I bought a 92 3000GT base about a year and a half ago. It was in decent shape with a bra that messed up the paint because it sat for 3 years. I picked it up for 1800 with 86k on the chassis and 40k on the JDM engine the previous owner bought. So far I brought back the paint from oxidation and repaired the front end damage. I have also replaced the sealed beam headlights with some custom made projectors my girlfriend and I put together. You can find pics of my car at my photobucket (http://s902.photobucket.com/user/SgtRodriguez/library/92 3000GT) or my girlfriend's instagram @lilmischill

I really had not noticed 3s cars until one was parked at a pawn shop, 92 SL, and it had an aftermarket front that made many ask me if it was some new car. It was quite sexy with its red color and 19 inch wheels. It did need work and had a overheating issue that finally was determined to be lack of cowling to flow the air. Well then I learn of the VR-4 and after waiting and watching for about six months, a 92 VR-4 red loaded came on craigslist for only 3800. It was due its 60k maint and needed new brake pads and rotors. I am very happy with my cheap, fast, and fun daily driver of 40 miles each way. I have varied roads of highway and twisty backroads to drive so the car gets a nice workout. I joined this forum because I saw the gathering that is happening in STL/Gateway this year, and I had already planned to run the car on that track in PDW format (non-racing). I have never pushed the car over 90 mph and am itching to open her up. My wife is always asking to drive the car and she likes to push it too. My plans for the car are up in the air right now. I would like to get more power, like everyone, but don't want to be wrenching all the time. I look forward to meeting fellow folks who know what a great car this hidden gem is.

I would like to get more power, like everyone, but don't want to be wrenching all the time. I look forward to meeting fellow folks who know what a great car this hidden gem is.

it is one of the biggest secrets in the known universe. on virtually any other forum, even mentioning you have a 3/s is like an invitation to get flamed.

Hi Juan here. Got my vr4 back in 2010 and now I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild. I'm up in northern jersey. A friend suggested I try this site out since I've been on 3si since I've owned the car. Loved the introduction video so I'm liking this site already lol.

shelton, go here: Non-Turbo Engines (http://www.3sgto.org/non-turbo-engines/)

Once there, you will see on the left hand side a button that says "post new thread". Click it, and then you can start your own discussion thread for your problem. If you need more help, just post back here and I'll walk you through it more. :)

Mark here....Just acquired a 1992 VR4 in a boat trade. Needs some front end work and a paint job. Been a DSM/JDM enthusiast previously and rehabbed a 1996 Eagle Talon with new engine, turbo, pipes, etc. Sold it. Now on to a bigger and better car to mess around with!!!

Hi everyone,

I have a 1991 Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo, which misfires/chokes/hesitates when accelerating moderately around 2500-3500 rpm? (it performs fine under heavy acceleration?!)

I have already replaced plugs, leads, coil-packs, earth straps, air filter, dump/blow off valve, and vacuum hosing and have tried diagnostics using datalogger software on my laptop.

Whilst the above has improved the running of the vehicle, the fundamental symptoms described above still exist? - I now suspect the issue may be injector, turbo, or fuel pump/pressure regulator related?

The datalogger software enables me to disable individual injectors, and each one impacts the running of the engine which suggests each are running to a certain degree. I have run a data logging session for 40 mins (over a 20mile journey), and the obvious observation when the issue manifests itself is a significant downward spike on the Injector Pulse Width?

- does this suggest a direct issue with the injector(s) or could this be a result of a faulty turbo, fuel pressure or boost leak?

Any help greatly appreciated :(

Still love my GT!

I haven't been able to access any forums using the Search option.
Looking for info regarding replacing the rear control arms/shocks & struts all around...no major problems...we're just replacing things due to age/maintenance

Great guide/rules Alan, I decided to finally switch over here from 3si.org. It at times is kind of hostile over there. Especially if someone tried finding the answer and cannot so they create another thread about their issue. This has happened to me personally. Trying to search for an answer for days or weeks and finally deciding to post a thread about the problem, then getting flamed or yelled at because of another post about that issue. Personally I feel that is not 100% called for especially when you stated that you tried to find it prior to posting a thread. Anyway, I finally saw that you and Brian moved here so I have followed. I enjoy the 3S platform and actually am slowly restoring my 91 Dodge Stealth ES that I bought just over a year ago. In fact, I just installed BC Racing BR Type coilovers. Pretty excited about that! Thanks for having me here and hope I can help others and get help from others.

Thanks for the lol video!
My car is a '95 3000GT VR4 Spyder that I used as a daily driver from about 2003 to 2007 totally stock. I had a few nasty incidents where I banged up the body and just about melted the engine. Got it running again but basically it sat for a few years and now I'm getting the engine rebuilt and the body work done. So far I'm adding a 3.3 Stroker kit, ebay M2 "tannabe knockoff" turboback exhaust and upgrading the intake. Still figuring out the next steps, and was looking at the Jester Flash ECU when they routed me here to help me learn the basics. I've been lurking around 3si on and off for a number of years, but looking to every resource that can help me learn.
I'm currently in Fort Lee, NJ in a condo so I have no ability to do any work myself, but have a great mechanic here who's doing the rebuild and body work.
