How would a 99-00 z28 camaro be for a daily driver? Parts don't seem too expensive and they only need 87 octane and on top of that they get the same mpg as my sohc on the highway while making nearly twice the power. Thoughts and opinions?

Doesn't sound like a bad choice to me. Just be sure to keep up with the usual maintenance as with any vehicle.

Love the LS1's.. A breeze to work on and even more fun to play in than a FWD car anyday!!!! I don't like the look of camaro's as much as I do trans am but to each his own... So yes good DD just make sure your not buying a lemon....

Your going to deal with a GM interior but overall its a pretty solid choice.

i think i'd opt for an 02 ws6 over a camaro...but either is a solid choice.....just not for areas with snowfall.

Agreed with you there. The 2002 WS6 is beautiful.

Considering a convertible Camaro myself.

I had a LS1 WS6 about 10 years ago and loved everything about it. It ran 13.1 @ 108MPH in the summer heat with just lid and catback; would've been easy 12's on drag radials. I daily drove it for 20k miles and raced it weekly and literally amassed 2 shoe boxes full of timeslips without a single issue. Insurance was cheap, economy was great if you drove it reasonably and you can't beat T-tops! The interior is roomy, the seats are comfortable and it's easy and cheap to work on -- there's really nothing to dislike, IMO. It definitely needs premium, though; not sure where the 87 octane idea came from.

There are only very minor mechanical variances between the 98/99's and 00-02's so there's no real advantage of one year over the other. Cosmetically, the 00 up has a true black interior instead of the charcoal grey, though.
