As in years past the autocross course is setup by a group of volunteers, and as in years past I am posting a thread requesting help. This year's setup will take place in the afternoon/evening after the road course event, so if you want to help but don't like early mornings, especially after a night of enjoying adult beverages, you are in luck. Also I have prepped a course layout ahead of time this year trying to make something truly epic for this event, and the pre-layout should help decrease setup time.

So I need some people that won't mind hanging out after the roadcourse for 1-2 hours to help place cones, mark the course with flour, and make course adjustments/changes as needed or desired.

The major benefits to helping setup are that you will know the course cold by the end of the setup, you will have some influence on the course layout, and best of all you will know where any tricky spots are and how to best tackle them.

So please post if you would like to lend a hand.

thanks,
Levi

Can we see a pic of what your planning ?

Since you are the sponsor I will gladly give you a sneak peek but I would prefer to keep it a secret until the day of the event.

What I will say is that it is a big course and it will be faster than anything we have done since I have been involved. And after speaking with Kurt, there shouldn't be any issues with the location. I even remembered to take power availability into consideration this year.

This course looks like sooooooo much fun!!! Count me in - I'll help. And if we don't get enough responses here, let me know and I'll email all registrants for assistance.

Hum good question.

Levi, best guess is this a get in 2nd and stay there track or required shifting? (^ has an issue shifting)

Yeah, I have shifting issues as well. I can get into 2nd fine but to get it back down into first requires stopping the car. Last year was not a friendly course for me. I hope this year is better :)

Keyan,

My shifting issue isn't the same issue your dealing with..... Mine isn't mechanical. ;)

Last year had a handful of first gear spots and its possible that this course will as well, but it should be more a preference thing than a necessity thing this year. This course is easily an all 2nd gear course if not a 2nd gear and a little of third.

However if you are a competitor that experiences issues downshifting I strongly recomend adjusting your line to account for that. There aren't many super tight corners to this layout aside from the start/stop area, so as long as you don't overcook the corner entry and have to nearly stop to turn you should be able to stay in 2nd without too much bog on acceleration.

This layout though technical in elements should feel more novice friendly.

So time is getting closer and it looks like I have only one volunteer as Von will be occupied with the swap meet. Is Boomer the only one that will be volunteering?

I'll be sending out an email to all of the autocrossers later today I'll mention that we are looking for track setup help.

I'm sure Di Bari will help.

Levi, you can have at least 2 committee members. I think I need one of us at registration and one at the swap meet, but the other two can go with you.

I don't see a problem lending a hand, as long as I can still get to dinner and some R&R at a reasonable time, since Thursday looks like it's going to be a really long day.

I appreciate the help guys. And setup should be shorter than in years past due me having made the layout already rather than Chris and I having to come up with it on site. So we shouldn't be there too long.

And as for learning the course, you will know it cold.

I wanted to post a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that helped with Auto-cross setup this year. There is no way Chris and I could have handled it ourselves without being there almost all night on Wednesday and we would not have stated on time on Thursday.

All of the volunteers made the setup go fast and I think this years track was a big hit with all the racers. So thank you again to all of our volunteers.

Please see my thanks as well, in the general forum. The AutoCross was a huge success this year, thanks to Levi, Chris, and all the volunteers. Thanks, everyone!!
