Today entered my first power lifting contest. Goal to own US Raw Bench record. It is the same as the World but you can't break a world record except in National and World meets. Old record 412.5. To break it you have to beat it by 5.5lbs.
First lift: 405lbs - Disqualified, I came off my chest before the rep said press. (lots of rules)
Second lift: 418.9lbs Wanted to try and remember all the rules and make sure I at least got the record.

Third lift: 440lbs The last one was so easy felt pretty confident. Had the same old problem of trying to make my left arm wait for my right. There was some anti-climactic confusion at the end I still don't understand. I thought I must have broken another rule but they confirmed it was good and will be new US raw bench record.

Congratulations! Huge achievement.
You benched 40 pounds over my squat max back in high school! Holding that on my shoulders was hard enough. I can't imagine holding that over my chest.

congrats sir but what do you consider old?
that's a really complicated question. I can't imagine ever feeling older than 22 on the inside. I mean I never thought aging would be like this. Sometimes I look in the mirror and don't know who that old guy is looking back at me. The guy that did the video for me had a son competing. I considered him old. He was 55. ugh. I felt like he could have been my dad.

Congrats Mike!! Even in my younger days I never benched more the 265. That's one hell of an achievement!

Not to sound greedy, but here's my thoughts.... (after a bottle of George De Latoure etc)
Sept - compete in Europa and take the world record for the ISA 220lb raw. There are a few organizations the one today was the biggest.
August take world record or WPC world record (APF I did today is a part of that) this this biggest power lifting organization.
Then drop down to 198lbs and take that world record for that. At 198 if I could get over my fear of "posing trunks aka banana hamicks" I might even think about doing some masters body building. That would be the real challenge to loose that weight and shape the muscle into a certain symmetry. *
*For me it's really not about records etc. though they are nice, it's about not quitting or settling in. Just like our cars. If you ever really finished it, it just wouldn't be fun any more. 501awhp 13T record wasn't the fun part, it was the journey to get there. Once you get there, if you can't look forward to something else, all your left with is the "is that all there is, blues"

i think you've stumbled upon why a lot of veteran 3/s owners end up selling: boredom. "Been there, done that" has a way of killing the fun factor for people.
i quite agree, the journey can be fun. i also think it's fun to enjoy the "IN YOUR FACE" moments where you achieve what you were told you'd never be able to do. hell, i've gone after some things in my life just because of spiteful vindication. in the end though, what really matters is what you want, and how you were able to go about achieving it.
congrats again! keep us posted. and be sure to "edit" your name into wikipedia for your record. ;)

I was following your progress in the earlier thread. I really admire your ambition and interested in mastering yourself + achieving your goals.
Nice work man, the sky's the limit!
One down, Mike.
They'll see you coming now, so stay solid upstairs.
Should be a piece-o-cake.
WAY TO GO!!!

Very impressive Mike! I'm glad we're friends, you're one bad ass middle aged dude! :lo5l:
I know what you mean about the age thing. Other than some mornings when I wake up I really don't feel or act much older than 24yo. ha ha

Congrats man! Just in time too, I was planning on pulling my engine this summer to tackle the power steering rack, A/C, and some other things. You're local, I don't need to buy an engine hoist. ;)
