View Full Version : Stealth ES 'To Do List' for NG11

Alex3000gt

I'm registered for all events this year. In 2007 I won an award for slowest AutoX time of the day. Looking to avoid that this year.

Anyway so here is my list of stuff to do in the next 44 days.

1) Paint car stock white, including the ugly black trim.
2) New rotors, pads and brake fluid. This will keep me from skidding off of the road course - in theory.
3) Timing belt

Anyone else going in their NA 3/S? What is your to do list?

EDIT:

Allow me to preface this:

This car was purchased in early 2008 from a board member on the other site and shipped in from Florida - the car had a bra on it and you are about to see why. The previous owner never mentioned any issues with paint, and took pictures making the car look excellent in the classified ad. Well - the car had several issues including a blown driver's side strut, dents, dings and awful missing paint on the front bumper. All mechanical issues with the car have been dealt with, but now it's time for paint.

Taking the R/T this year. The ES is in really rough shape and I'd be ashamed to show up with it.

I'm hoping to get my Addco sway bars installed before the NG. MY ES placed 3rd in the modified FWD category without them in '09. That, and the dual exhaust that's going on with my RT bumper are the only performance add ons from '09.

good luck with it
if you do the timing belt, be sure to do the complete 60k, or at least the tensioner and waterpump

i'd be happy if i could get mine to start at this point
i will be at ng even if i have to push or tow it, lol

Always. This will be my 7th timing belt install between three Stealths and one 3000GT.

You should hot wire your starter off of the ignition and get that thing started! I need some competition in the NA class.

I am following your thread closely. The RT body kit and sail panels is a dream of mine.

That will definitly make you faster on the autocross, white is faster then blue right?

Declining membership and these cars are getting old now. The youngest of these cars is now 11.

In other news:
I went to pick up the stealth today, it looks AWESOME. I found a couple flaws in the paint and showed the manager, he agreed to redo the errored panels. The drivers side skirt still showed some road scratches through the new paint and there was some goop on the rear bumper that was painted over on accident.

Aside from that, the car is SEXY with the previously black trim painted white. I went back to get photos but I missed the shop closing by about 15 minutes.

I'll update again next week.

i would have waited to get the r/t stuff before painting. painting the trim stripe only makes it look like a 2g; but everyone still knows it's a base/es.

Haha, no pics. The car was already locked up in the shop for the weekend by the time I got off of work.

This is true, but body mods are low on my priority list right now, I just wanted the car to look "nice" and be all one color for the NG.

I just ordered a timing belt kit, 4 new rotors and ceramic pads for all four corners. This will be my 7th timing belt install across three NAs and one TT.

New rotors and brake pads came in this week. Expecting timing belt, water pump & tensioner to arrive on Monday.

I went by the body shop to inspect and pick up the car today. No bueno. They fixed their error on the driver's side rocker panel (side skirt) but in the light I saw paint runs on the passenger's side. I kindly asked them to fix it, I am a patient person. My "drop dead" date to get the car back in my hands is June 16th so I can do all of the mechanical work before the NG. Yikes.

Also, I am getting married in one week. Wow.

Doing that stuff today. Got the timing belt and water pump off.

The hydraulic tensioner was collapsed! I checked all timing marks and nothing had jumped. I feel like the luckiest 3/S owner on the planet right now. I wonder how long the tensioner was collapsed.

Update: "180K" is done! I have a few pictures but I do not have access to a PC right now to upload them. Among the pictures is the failed hydraulic tensioner I discovered when I pulled off the lower timing belt cover. :o! I sure am lucky I did not jump time.

Additionally, I put some bright yellow A/C dye into my refrigerant system and found my leak! It was leaking at the o-ring where the high pressure line meets the compressor. The o-ring was destroyed! I replaced it then I put in 24 oz of r134a (the system requires 32oz), and it has not leaked yet. If the pressure is still maintained in the morning then I will put in the other 12oz can and roll to the National Gathering with working air conditioning.

Have a safe trip everyone. I promise lots of photos when I get home to my PC.

Road course was today. It was a blast! I held off a spyder, SL and a VR4!

Unfortunately my car started running hot, and everyone I was putting distance on was able to pass me while I cruised in 4th to cool down. I was definitely outperformed by alot of people today, it is time for a radiator upgrade!

Road racing was a blast and everyone was awesome.

100% stock atx with 8psi limit on an 8:1 engine. i could probably have shaved 3/4ths of a second off that if i'd been running 14 psi at a correct a/f ratio.

I have not yet. I am looking to move into a place with a garage in the next few months, so in the mean time I am going to sell the Stealth.

I have taken it from a broken down ugly duckling to a strong running (WITH WORKING A/C) good looking car! Time for a new - and faster - challenge. I will likely buy a 'rough' RT/TT or VR4 and bring it up to speed. Anyway, follow the link in my signature to the "For Sale" advertisement.

You won't be disappointed later if you get a 5 speed 25 spline which comes in the 1st gen on the late '92 and all '93 models (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that). That's the strongest drivetrain setup you will find for these cars. Mine has the 18 spline output shaft. Let me know when you find something you're interested in!!!!!!!!

lol! 5-speed vs. 6-speed debate is as old as time. i favor the z15's because i'd be doing an mtx > atx swap.

iirc, after july 1992, all awd's had the 25 spline & 4-bolt engine; but don't quote me.

you could change nothing about the car, other than switching all body panels to 1g 3kgt, and the ebay closing bid would have probably been $1500 higher. just sayin.

I would agree. If you do not beat on the car, and do the routine maintenance it is a great daily driver.

You have to pay attention to warning signs though. Don't let oil leaks and squeals slip by, pay attention to what you car is trying to tell you.
